The speaker starts and finishes the film alone, however, in the same way the narrative of his life starts without Frank and will end the same way.

Oh, I like your interpretation. I've never thought of it that way.

7.9/10 (47 votes)

I think that's awesome. A experimental Canadian short film about people dying of AIDS has 47 votes at IMDB. I mean, hey, it's not a lot, but there are enough votes to COUNT.

I can never say it without crying.

Doesn't he say "But he never says it without crying"? I thought... hm. Would make more sense, too, I think?

And, okay, I didn't think of that yesterday, but there was something, a quote of Hoolboom about CKR... about his acting in this film. I'll check if I can find it somewhere.

But anyway, wonderful post. I watched the movie again last night, and yeah, it definitely deserves a great post too.

Ah, okay, it was in 12 Steps to Stardom:

Nevertheless, he appeared in Mike Hoolboom's short film Frank's Cock, one unbroken shot of Rennie telling the camera a raw, radiant love story. Hoolboom used him again in Letters From Home, his intimate study of living with AIDS. "We were," Hoolboom recalls, "trying to figure out where the emotional trajectory should be in the final scene. Callum went for it, but was holding back the obvious emotions. I thought it was too flat. I said 'be there, feel it' and we did two more takes. I nearly cried with the passion he portrayed. But I never used those last two. He was right the first time; his instincts were perfect. He left space for the viewer to feel those things. On an innate intestinal level he knows exactly what to communicate." Both films went on to win prizes for best short at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Ooh, I've wanted to see this for awhile! Which not-so-legitimate sources are there? I've been googling, but I just keep finding bandom fic. =(

I feel your pain. I'm having the same problem and am starting to hate these bands on principle, heh.

It might be easier if the fics were good--I usually like bandom, but I'm remembering why I stick to livejournal, now.

It's weird that there aren't even any torrents, though. =/

Sorry, sorry. If the mod could kill the comment above, THIS link should work properly.

I'm logging out for this... as if it's not going to be completely obvious in ten seconds who I am.

So! Kellie's fic True Colors features the unnamed protag as "Marty"-the-hairdresser, who is paired about halfway through with PG's character from Cold Comfort. The main pairing is F/K. The fic is really long, though, and there's a lot of "Marty," who I think is pretty in-character and remains fairly positive as a person even after having lost Frank (that is not a part of the narrative).

And I officially hate myself.

Done. :)

If you hadn't logged out you would have been able to repair your coding. ;P

Anyway, yes, I've read that. Marty the hairdresser is totally Frank's boyfriend. God, it's years since I read that one.
