First off, a Heroes Parody!

A good read, since this blog isn't all about the Lols: Click here, since the headline title is kinda stupid.

Excerpts:

"We need to stop endlessly repeating 'You're special' and having children repeat that back," said the study's lead author, Professor Jean Twenge of San Diego State University. "Kids are self- ( Read more... )

You sure this blog isn't for the LOLs? Haha, kidding. Love the parody. What people would do to be famous in the intarwebs.

As for the article...

You don't say? Guh, they're Americans. Of course they need attention (and shrinks). Maybe I should shift to Psychology? I bet I can pull a Dr. Phil on them and get lotsa money. And freebies. It's all about the freebies.

You'd probably profit off Psych. If the previous generations were messed up enough already, imagine what happens once these Special Snowflake Kids enter the workforce and realize that, you know, they're not fucking special? The therapy bills would make a lot of people wealthy.

Nope, not a joke. It's a CNN article, and has been backed up by my friend who commented after you who's working with preschool kids right now. And yes, this explains 90% of Myspace and Youtube.

Also, pardon me, but I don't think I've met you before. I checked our common friends, we only have Cleo and Mina in common, which is admittedly a sign of good taste on us both. :D Um, have I met you somewhere else before?

As an example, Twenge cited a song commonly sung to the tune of "Frere Jacques" in preschool: "I am special, I am special. Look at me."

Really, they do sing this. I took a bunch of child development classes and observed at some preschools, and good lord they do sing this. It's freaky...made more so by the fact that 3-5yr olds are singing it and taking it to heart, and growing up to be spoiled, conceited, attention-whore brats.

Then again, there are those who take it to heart and actually work harder and actually be special. I love those kids, but there are far too few of them.

Heh...I KNEW psych was a good choice for a major.

Ugh. That's so wrong. You have to encourage achievement for kids to actually, you know, achieve. I suspect that this article about US High School kids dropping out of boredom is entwined with that too. The sad part is, I think that a lot of those dropping out are the ones who are no longer challenged by the American education system - when 20 of you end up being Valedictorians, what's the point of striving?
