I had a black bunny growing up named Princess. She lived until she was like 8 and then my Da found her one morning. She gave us no signs or anything. Just went. Da was more upset than anyone because he used to go downstairs and feed her carrots every morning. She'd open her cage for him. XD
I'm just curious though, he was already showing signs of not being well, so why did the vet pronounce him healthy, and not noticed the signs sooner? I'm not sure if it would of made a difference even if they did notice it sooner, I don't know those types of things. But I also know that unfortunately little bunnys don't last long and it seems you had him for quite awhile, so maybe it just was his time.
I'm sorry if I seem a little off by the vet procedure, but there is lots more where that came from in my journal.
Always remember his silky smooth fur. Sorry for your loss.
The vet was very appoligetic when he actually did go downhill and die :( But basically she did a physical check up and came up with nada and since he was still eating etc. she couldn't really see what the fuss was about - But since my family know Ivan and his super active ways very well we knew that play fighting with the dogs and leaping around 24-7 was his normal activity and he wasn't doing that anymore so they must have been a problem. I think the vet just saw it as 'most' rabbits just don't eat when they are sick so... No problem in her eyes!
Luckily for her there would have been almost nothing that could have been done for the little guy even if she did catch it earlier, possibly a vit injection but that was only one of his issues so his death isn't on her shoulders fortunately.
*sigh* I hate vets. Atleast she apologized, and it was like I figured, unfortunately when our pets get older and sick, sometimes there isn't much we can do. I'm real sorry, it must of been hard too not being able to say goodbye. I'm sure he knows how you feel, and I bet he is hopping along with Teddy sometime in the future. (I never believed in ghosts until Chance started acting weird about the bed, must be Scooby, will post about that later)
I'm so sorry. How sad :( I wish I had something profound to say that would make you feel better, but I got nothing. Just know i am thinking of you and sending some positive energy your way.
