This is such a fantastic look into River's character. Actually, I think my favorite line is when River tells Early that she's no longer River... she is Serenity. That, and I absolutely love Wash when they're talking about what River's going to do next. "I hope it's the soup thing. It's always a hoot and we don't all die."
The episode, to me, has always shown that although River is fragile on the outside and broken on the inside, she still manages to function (reasonably) within the society aboard ship. Sure she has her moments where she freaks out and lets loose with sharp objects... but I enjoyed that in Objects in Space, we actually get to see more of what River sees, what's going on in her head when these episodes happen.
Yes, I agree with you. It's nice to get a better look at how River functions within the Serenity family. And I'm so glad we got a 'special' episode on her before the series ended ^^
