McCoy's been settling in with the new status quo as best as he can. It's not like he's totally in love with hurtling even further into the past when he's already coping with losing five hundred centuries of gains in medicine and technology, but he's gonna make do. After what happened in the lab, he figures he's got no right in hell to complain ( Read more... )

If anybody could understand the lose of technology, Trip could. Sure, one of the things he loved about the island was it's tropical simplicity, when it was it's normal self of course, but the lack of anything mechanical to play with had been starting to wear on him. At least in this supposedly temporary city, there were machines for him to tinker with. They may not be a warp engine but Trip would take what he could get. Even he had to admit, there was something fun about working with the simplest of machines.

Trip hadn't seen what the man was doing, he just saw the rather spectacular tumble after the chair crumpled under him. He started over carefully, wanting to be sure the guy was okay, though he was fighting a grin of amusement. "Hey, that was some fall. You okay? Do I need ta go grab a doc?"

"Not under Captain Jonathan Archer he ain't!" Trip didn't have any classifications because he'd been undercover at the time of his arrival. But still, he didn't think Jon would have anyone as his Chief Engineer but Charles Tucker the Third.

Suddenly, awkward or not, he really didn't wanna kiss this guy. Telling such tales about Enterprise, Trip wouldn't hear it.

"No, but under James T. Kirk, he is," is McCoy's wry response, starting to get the idea of what's going on here. He sighs, deeply, and rubs at his face before he lets out a chuckle that's meant to condemn the both of them as idiots. "We're from two different times, aren't we?"

"Kirk? Who the..." Then Trip caught what the other man said and started chuckling himself. Really, with all he had to deal with with the Suliban and Daniels, he really should have known. "I'm thinkin' that's what it is. Well, I gotta be before you, since our Enterprise was the first human vessel ever. How many Enerprises have there been since?"

"Honestly, I didn't pay much attention," McCoy admits with a slight smirk. When the history lessons started coming on, McCoy started drifting off. He's got all the care in the world for the history of medicine and people, but ships don't interest him in the least. He'd rather just ignore them completely. "That's Jim's territory. Well, a whole bunch of people's. Just not mine."

"I hear ya. Unless it was the history of the engine, I didn't pay much attention either. I left that up to Jonny. Though if ya wanted military history, Malcolm was yer man." Trip shook his head. "Well, I'll be a gator's uncle. And here I didn't think there was anyone from home here. Or well, close enough."

Then he glanced up at the plant hanging above their heads. "An' we still got a problem to solve."

McCoy sighs heavily as he stares up at the mistletoe and then back at the man. "Look, it's not like you're the first chief engineer I'll have kissed under really strange circumstances," he reasons, as if trying to make this somehow okay in his head. "We should just get this over with, right?"

Trip couldn't help raising his eyebrows and the shuttered at the thought of having to kiss Phlox. "Sorry, that wasn't at the thought of kissing you. Our doc was Denobulan and I think I'd have nightmares 'bout his tongue if I ever had to kiss him."

Then he took a deep breath and leaned closer. "Don't hit me, alright? I'll make it quick." He closed the distance and kissed the doctor, pressing in to make it count but as quickly as possible.
