The right way to come back down

When Daphne woke up this morning and found out about the changes to the island, she wondered if it was somehow in league with the Kennishes. She'd only been joking when she'd mentioned Kathryn hiring a Ferris Wheel for her birthday party to Emmett, the day that she'd arrived here, and yet here one was, just in time for the actual date of her ( Read more... )

When Kon saw her, he was almost hesitant to catch her attention. It looked like she was opening a birthday present and, from her reaction, it was one of those sort of presents. The ones that either made you hate or love the island. He couldn't tell from her reaction which it was, but after a minute, he decided that enough was enough.

He walked over and tapped on the side of her arm gently, offering her a smile when she looked up.

Daphne cast a longing look at the gift and then nodded. "I'm okay. Just...homesick, I guess." She gave him a weak smile.

The book shelf was far from the next best thing, but sometimes he caught it in a good mood - inasmuch as any of the so-called enchanted objects around here could ever be placated - and so he could continue his education on the American greats, beyond Mark Twain and onto Truman Capote now. He was back to return it, now, not even halfway through and already certain that he'd not finish it, too distracted and distraught by the comparisons he could draw to Shane, however small they were. On his way across the room to the book shelf, Silas raised a hand in a wave at the girl with the with the box and the curiously solemn yet pleased expression.

Daphne waved back and flashed a brief smile, though she didn't recognize the boy. Then she carefully folded the poster back up and set it in the box, pulling out the t-shirt to hold it up and considering ducking into her room to change into it.
