Quorra couldn't quite believe what the island had turned into overnight. She'd come outside in the morning, and the place was all covered with noisy machinery that she didn't immediately grasp the purpose of. After a few moments of observation, she realized these were rides, and, while not quite as exciting as a lightcycle under her own control, ( Read more... )

Bella couldn't exactly say she was surprised when she'd stepped outside and walked directly into an amusement part. Okay, she'd rubbed her eyes a few times, even pinched her arm once. When the first hadn't changed anything and the second had given her a bruise, she'd just shrugged and gone with it.

She was in the middle of walking around the game section with the remnants of a funnel cake in front of her and stopped next to another girl, one she hadn't met yet, standing alone. Normally, she'd have just continued along and kept to herself, but this place was different and she was determined to be different along with it.

Stopping just beside the woman, she smiled and spoke softly. "Crazy, isn't it?"

"It is, but it's very exciting! I've never seen anything quite like it, with all this food and all the people screaming and liking it." So many things set up just for fun was something Quorra was very interested in.

She looked curiously at the girl's funnel cake. "What's that? There are so many foods here I've never seen."

"My dad took me to Disneyland once, during one of our summer trips to California but even that wasn't like this. This is like a State Fair on steroids or something."

Bella looked at her plate. She'd never seen a funnel cake? Since most of this stuff was common carnival fare, she started wondering where this woman came from. Remembering what Bill told her, she just held the untouched side of the cake out to the girl. "It's funnel cake, one of my absolute favorites. Want a bite?"

"It doesn't look like a funnel." Quorra accepted the offered piece, ate it, and smiled. "It's really good. I"ll have to get one of those of my own. It's really different from anything we had where I'm from, but that's true of most things here. I'm Quorra."

Though Sam had only been on the island for a few months, he'd learned quickly that the only thing to expect was the unexpected. Even when it seemed impossible, this place could always come up with something new to throw at them, typically some different brand of torture to make them all suffer through. If there was a catch to this, though, he had yet to figure out what it was. He hadn't been to a carnival like this in a long time, and while he did have some reluctance to just let go and enjoy all of this or whatever, he couldn't deny that it had worked out in their favor this time.

Mostly, he'd been wandering around on his own, half-looking for whatever was fastest. Finding Quorra was just as good, and he grinned at the sight of her. "Bet they didn't have anything like this on the Grid," he said in lieu of a greeting, biting back a laugh. "What do you think so far?"

Quorra had been hoping to find Sam. It just seemed right to share the strange things the island did with him.

"No, nothing like this. I'm not sure any of these things are faster or more challenging than a lightcycle race, but they look like they're better than anything else I've seen here so far."

"And a lot less likely to end in deresolution," Sam added wryly, nodding once, smile still in place. Having ridden a lightcycle himself, he could definitely confirm that what she said was true -- not to mention, rides tended to remove the element of risk that he actually enjoyed -- but there was still plenty of fun to be had. Even more so in introducing someone to it who'd never seen anything like it before. "What have you done so far? Come on, we're gonna find a ride to go on."

"I haven't seen anyone get derezzed since I've been here. It's been kind of nice, even if it's because everything is slow." She just wanted some excitement; she didn't want anyone to die for it. It seemed to her that this amusement park thing might be the best option possible. "I've eaten some things on sticks and crashed some cars into others, which seems like a strange thing to do on purpose. It was fun, but I'm ready for something faster."

The island was officially a circus. So what else was new. Chase was heading for the beach, hopefully a spot without any loud blaring carnival music or death trap rides, his pet deinonychus in tow and his oversized messenger bag slung over his shoulder, when he spotted an extremely cute girl who looked like, but was not, Dr. Remy Hadley. He hesitated, hand half lifted, as he realized.

Except now he was just standing there with his hand kinda raised in the air. Smooth.

"Hello!" Quorra was frequently oblivious to awkwardness, which did make social interactions at least seem smoother, from her point of view. "Is that a dinosaur? Is it looking for people to eat, or something on a stick?"

"It is," Chase replied, mouth twitching up toward a grin.

"Her name is Old Lace. She's smart, and generally non-violent. You can say hi, if you want." Old Lace poked her head around Chase's should to look at the woman, tilting her huge dino head from one side to the other, curiously.

The creature did look calm enough, looking at her with more curiosity than hunger. Quorra thought it might be a good idea to try to make friends, if she had a chance, than enemies with such a beast.

"Hello, Old Lace. It's nice to meet you. I'm Quorra. Please don't eat me. I won't eat you." She held out her hand, like she would toward a dog, though this was definitely a lot scarier than any dog she'd met yet.

Aragorn was a bit overwhelmed by all the things that had suddenly appeared overnight on the island. It was by far the strangest sort of magic he had witnessed so far. He had wandered around a bit before fully grasping the purpose of this place and was intrigued by it all.

"Excuse me," he said, going up to the dark haired woman who seemed at least slightly more comfortable in the environment than he was. "Are you aware if there is any particular order in which do to these things?"

Quorra was watching the animals go by on the carrousel, some kind of grilled meat on a stick in one hand and a frozen lemonade in the other.

"No, sorry. I'm still trying to figure that out for myself. I've never participated in anything like this before." A large pink horse passed by, and she smiled. "I think I like it, though."

"My world has no such things," he said, watching the moving animals go around and around. "There are horses, but not in such colors and on such contraptions."

He wondered if such coloring was normal on other worlds. It would make for very conspicuous animals.

"I am Aragorn, by the way."

"My world has things that are similar, but not exactly. This is more... whimsical." She had no objection to whimsey, even if it wasn't something she was terribly familiar with. "I'm Quorra. It's nice to meet you, Aragorn."
