Once Bill had discovered people had woken up with powers they'd not had yesterday, he'd not been able to help the surge of excitement as he dug out his wand - it had been so long, he'd long since stopped carrying it. When it proved to still be in effect a rather useless, albeit nice-looking, piece of wood, he'd shoved it back in its place in ( Read more... )

The smell of lemon cake was practically a magnet as Sonya found her way into the kitchen. Even with her morning sickness over and her belly now visible even with a loose shirt on, the craving for anything lemon wasn't something she could ignore.

She entered the kitchen, frowning when she saw that it was still in the oven, but helped herself to some Shepard's pie and vegetable stew. She usually helped herself to both entrees when Bill was cooking dinner, but with her metabolism now set for 'three people', she was being even more generous for herself.

Food also served as a distraction. Seeing everyone with what appeared to be 'cooler' powers than her, and her own powers seemingly a manifest of pregnancy hormones on haywire-if she wasn't so hungry and the food so good, she would've been content to make dinnner for her and Hanzo back at the hut.

When would that damn lemon cake be ready?

After tumbling into The Hub earlier that day, Jonas had attempted to figure out exactly how he'd gotten there. By now he figured out that he could disappear into and move through shadows...he just couldn't seem to figure out how to control where he went.

That's how he came stumbling into the kitchen from the shadow of the fridge, his feet tripping over the suddenly different floor under his feet. He looked around and quickly got his bearings. "Okay, not exactly the laundry room but closer..." And he hadn't fallen over, which was really a huge improvement.

"Ooh no, I can blow things up with my mind, that's so scary, make it stop," Danica muttered to herself, part of a long litany of mocking mimicry of the lameass people she'd heard today. If she could suddenly make things explode or fly through the air or read minds, the first thing she'd be doing was most definitely not complaining.

"Why won't it go away, I want to be normal. Psh." She scoffed and had another spoonful of stew. By now she could control her sight, deciding when to use night and thermal vision, and right now, she had it switched off. She couldn't foresee a time when she would use it either, so if anyone should be complaining, she thought it ought to be her.

Ron was just finishing up his second helping of supper at the counter and was contemplating a third. His brother's cooking's his favorite on the island, so he usually makes a point of turning up on Friday nights.

Tonight's different, though, because the island's gone all wonky. At first, Ron had hoped that what looked like people doing magic was actually people doing magic, but nearly a year on the island had taught Ron that Tabula Rasa was too mental for that.

"Do you mind passing the fruit salad?" he asked the person nearest to him, once he realized that it was just out of his reach. Only, the second he'd stretched his arm out to reach for it, the bowl slid across the counter, landing right against his open palm.

"...bloody hell, did you see that?"

For a moment, all Bill could do was gape at his younger brother. It seemed mental, especially since there wasn't a wand in sight, but he knew what it'd looked like. "Did you just summon that fruit salad?" It couldn't have been, but Bill didn't know any other means to describe it.

"I dunno. I haven't even got my wand on me today," Ron said, probably even more surprised than Bill was. His eyes wide, he looked down at the bowl of fruit, still in shock. He'd always been a bit rubbish at non-verbal spells, so the idea that magic would work again and he'd suddenly be good at them seemed a bit off.

"A non-verbal spell and without a wand," Bill said, still staring at the bowl like he was expecting it to do something else, maybe a bit of tap-dancing. "Seems a bit of a stretch. Maybe you've got that Muggle thing, teleke-whatsis."

Cameron's loaded up on food and found a table to himself in a quiet corner, watching everyone else warily. Something intensely strange has been going on the last few hours and it's more than enough to weird him out. So far he's weathered being in this place about as well as anyone can be expected to do, but this is harder to ignore than people suddenly changing ages and sexes. At least then, they're still just people. No one's a giant, no one has magic growing hair, no one shoots fire or turns into a merman - Cameron's read comics, albeit not many, he's not unfamiliar with the idea of all this, but being faced with a sudden profusion of abilities, he's more than a little bewildered.

Why she thought the kitchen seemed like the safest place to go, Jenny doesn't actually know. What she does know is that, from the time she woke up, everything seems to have gone all mad. First, Santana was spouting eloquent bursts of knowledge that sounded like they could have come from textbooks, and if that weren't bad enough, the next thing she knew, there were rumors of mermaids, and she's pretty sure that the rec room was filled with a good half-dozen copies of the same person when she passed through it. Whatever's the cause, she both wants to steer clear of it and wants to find out what's going on; she's settled instead for one place she thinks she can lie low without doing something silly like hiding, as if there'd be any need for that. Heading over at the sight of Cameron is instinctive, though she doesn't realize as she slides into the chair next to him that she's holding her breath until she goes to speak, voice kept slightly lowered as if she doesn't want anyone else to overhear. "Are you normal?"

"I think that would depend on who you ask," Cameron says, though he smiles a little at seeing Jenny join him. Sipping his coffee, he shakes his head. "If you mean can I suddenly break glass with my voice or talk to dinosaurs, then no, I can't, which is perfectly alright with me. What about you?" Admittedly, he hasn't seen any dinosaurs today, so there's every possibility he's wrong, knowing this place. He just also has no interest in testing it out. Whatever abilities they may have, it's bizarre and, very likely, will all be gone by the following week anyway.

"Nothing," Jenny says with a shake of her head, visibly relieved, and more for his sake than hers. Though she's a girl who's always prided herself on being independent, that was a lot easier to hold to when she wasn't virtually on her own; here, Cameron is easily the closest friend she has, and something like an anchor for it. If he were suddenly breaking glass with his voice or talking to dinosaurs or any one of God knows how many other things that have afflicted people today, she isn't sure what she would do. Now, knowing that she would have him to depend on, she doesn't have to depend on anything. "Nothing that I've seen yet, anyway, which is promising so far."
