Nearly a week had passed since Alcuin had added Daniel Jackson's name to the drawing he'd pinned up on the wall in his house. He'd named it in his head the Tree of Loss, and tried to think of it now as a sort of memorial. Chase noted the books and offered a friendly smile to Alcuin as he entered the kitchen, in the mood for a very sugary coffee. "Do you remember," he said off-hand, trying to start with friendly conversation (even though a part of him was still wary around Alcuin on House's behalf), "When Shakespeare himself used to be here? I swear, it seems like ages ago."

"I remember," said Alcuin, looking away from the books, but down at his tea instead of up at Chase. "He was in my bed the night before he disappeared."

"Well," Chase said, blinking as he tried to adjust for the unexpected answer. "That is..." Well, it was the way of the island. You fell for someone or you let them into your life and eventually they left and you were crushed as a result. "I'm sorry?" he offered, a bit helpless in offering that.
