Shirtless had become almost a uniform around the Echolls-Harkness residence. Though sadly, it had nothing to do with romantic interludes and everything to do with the major construction that seemed to be never ending. They'd torn apart most of the 'work'room, and in its place a nursery was slowly being built. Outside a shed had been constructed, ( Read more... )

Savannah smiled brightly at Logan and waved. In one hand she had a bit of paper, held carefully so she didn't bend it or get it sweaty. She looked a bit heavier all over, but the loose sundress she wore was more than adequate to conceal the growing bump of her belly.

"Hi, Logan," she said. "I've got a gift for you. Is Jack around, too?"

"He went up to the compound. He'll be back soon," Logan replied, dusting his hands off and getting to his feet. He gave her a smile.

"What's going on?" he asked.

"I went to the doctor for a check up and this time I got this," she said happily, holding up a picture. It was mostly black but had white lines and pale shadows.

"It's the baby! The doctor said we can do it again and again if you want to try to find out if it;s a boy or girl."

Logan took the photo, smiling as he studied it closely. To be honest, there wasn't too much to see, but- it was a baby. His baby. his kid.

"This is amazing. Shit, Savannah, if I'd known I would have come with you or something. You don't need to do all this stuff on your own."

"Hey," I say, managing a crooked smile, my hands shoved deep in my pockets. I don't come down this way often, and I can't really say why I did today, but the girls are with Charlie and I just... started to wander.

I don't know whether or not he heard about Tom. News travels fast, and there's a good chance Joe mentioned it to him, or that he's even noticed himself 'cause of the building crew, but it's been less than a week, and we don't really hang out in the same circles, anymore. We haven't for a long time.

"Lookin' good," I say, motioning toward the house. Seems like they've been working on this place forever.

Logan hadn't heard. Though he'd assumed something was up since Tom hadn't been around. To be honest though, between the house and getting ready for the baby, he'd been in his own world lately.

So when he smiled back, it was bright and oblivious.

"It looks like shit," he laughed, brushing himself off as he got to his feet, grabbing a towel to wipe away the sweat. "Should look good when we finish though."

he tossed the towel at Neil and nodded at the small stack of sanding blocks. "Feel like helping out? Jack went to get water, or food, or- Fuck, I dunno. I wasn't really listening," he admitted, not looking too ashamed of the fact. He was sure if it had been important Jack would have made a point of getting his attention. The other man could always tell when Logan wasn't really paying attention.

Catching the damp towel out of reflex, I throw at back at him with a snort of laughter and a wince, leaning down to grab one of the sanding blocks after just a moment of hesitation.

"Sure, whatever," I say, dropping to my knees next to the door or whatever it's gonna be.

"So, I uh... I heard about the baby."

"Seriously? Joe tell you or something?" Logan asked, looking a little surprised. He hadn't realized many people knew. "I was gonna tell you about it myself, but, uh- It's been kind of insane here."

He took a swig of water, then returned to sanding.

"You alright, man?" he asked after a moment, glancing at the other man curiously. "You look kind of worn down."
