Aragorn took a deep breath and took another drink or water as he let the axe rest at his side. It was nearing dusk, when the heat of the afternoon was beginning to burn off. He hadn't been at work long today, preferring to work in the cooler hours of the morning and evening, but the humidity of the island got to one quickly ( Read more... )

He had a beautiful voice. Zelda had been looking for a quiet place to think and play, harp under her arm, but the sound of the man's singing stopped her. She was inclined to be melancholy, today being her birthday and marking the second that she'd spent on this island with no real word from home, but his singing paused that.

"Your voice is lovely," she said quietly. "And you're certainly not disturbing me."

Aragorn was more than a little surprised to find an Elf on the island. Perhaps she wasn't an Elf from his world, but there was no mistaking the near unnatural beauty, the preternatural grace and bearing, as well as finely pointed ears.

His surprise was only a split second, but he had no doubt that it didn't go unnoticed.

"Forgive me, I do not mean to stare, but you remind me of friends in my world."

"Do I? You're from Hyrule?"

Zelda had never anticipated someone coming to the island from her own home and even though it wasn't a man she knew (and a human, not a Hylian) it filled her heart with joy. It had been so long since she'd even had a glimpse of home. So very long.

"No, my apologies, but I have never heard of such a place," Aragorn said, feeling a bit guilty about possibly getting her hopes up that he was from her world. It was entirely possible that she was, only from a different time, but it would likely have to be from the future, as he had never heard of Hyrule.

"In my world is a race called Elves, and they are more fair than humans with ears and grace such as yours."

"Not in the slightest," Archie replied, calling out similarly in a clear, amicable tone as he neared the source of the familiar noises that had drawn him up from the beach. The language though beautiful to the ear was utterly foreign to him, but Kennedy maintained a great fondness for music and he knew well the clap and thud of chopping wood though he would never profess to much industriousness himself.

As he drew close, feeling somewhat tacitly invited by the acknowledgement, Archie's eyes lit up as he recognized the shape of the wood before him. "Ah, I see now exactly what you were up to. A song always seems to speed work along, doesn't it? And you've been hard at it, it appears."

"Indeed, it serves well to take take the mind off the tediousness that can become chopping wood," Aragorn said with a nod. While it was easy to fall into the steady rhythm of chopping it was just as easy to find it dull to the point of madness.

"And I have been working on it for several days now, yes. It is coming along as nicely as I had hoped."

"Yes, it is," Archie remarked, his gaze critical, but not unfriendly so, as he stepped forward and crouched down to observe the craft more closely. He did not touch as he would not dare touch any man's private property without permission.

"I'm a sailor, you see," he explained, glancing up at his companion of the moment. "Even now I dare to call myself that, despite circumstances. I've seen one or two people here attempt to build themselves remarkably unseaworthy vessels. It's good to come across a man who knows what he's doing."

"I have spent a good many months on the seas and rivers of my world and would not think of taking a journey here without a suitable vessels," Aragorn explained, glad to meet a man of the sea who was knowledgeable.

"I am fortunate enough to have had good teachers to show me how to build the necessary vessel. Though not large, I do believe it will get me to the other island band back. Perhaps when I return, we may take a trip around this island together?"

His boat wasn't overly large, but it would fit two comfortably and having someone else to help sail would definitely make the going easier.
