If there was one thing Jonas was tired of was being inside. Granted, being inside a hut on a tropical island was much better then being stuck inside, oh, a mountain or an evil alien’s spaceship but still. Four walls got old quickly

Coraline was exploring. First, she counted everything blue (thirty one.) Then she counted all the orange and red flowers (eighteen). And then she counted all the people she could see (one Jonas Quinn. Jonas Quinn? Coraline almost let out a girly shriek of excitement at the sight of him but she managed to contain herself. Just.
"Hi!" Coraline said smiling brightly at him. Coraline wasn't smiling much these days but some things, some wonderful things could always make her smile. "Hi! Wow, um I'm Coraline Carter."
Jonas had heard her coming but he'd heard many people walking along the path that day so he hadn't bothered to look up. When the excited 'Hi!' came from right in front of him however, he looked up with a curious expression that quickly fed off her excitement and turned into a bright smile. She was definitely excited about something, Jonas just didn't know what for.
"Hi. I'm Jonas Quinn. But something tells me you knew that already." His smile never strayed as if to say he didn't mind.
"Ahuh. I'm friends with Sam, no relation and Jack. And Daniel. And Teal'c when he was here," Coraline said. Her smile was huge, enormous. Today was a really, really good day for Carter's. "And you're- you're Jonas Quinn! You're an explorer like me."
Of course his expression got brighter and more open as she mentioned all of his friends from home, especially the Jaffa who had become one of Jonas' closest friends on Earth, two aliens in a strange land. He'd really missed Teal'C the last few days.
Chuckling slightly, he replied to her excitement, "Yeah, I guess you could say I was, for the past year or so. I loved it." And he had to the point his excitement was not just matching hers now but genuinely his own. Searching the stars had been a dream come true ever since Daniel had given him that book to read before the accident on Kelwona. "If you're an explorer, then it's no wonder you get along so well with all of SG-1. Where do you explore?"
As much as Cissie was enjoying her cardio class in that 'what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger' kind of way, it was definitely doing a number on her. Cassie had suggested she go running to try to help with that and she'd gone with it.
When she'd started out, it was going pretty well but by the time she hit New Atlantis, she was in desperate need of a break and flopped on the nearest space of ground, not noticing she wasn't alone until she'd looked up.
"Oh geez, I didn't see you there," she said a bit sheepishly. "I hope you don't mind if I crash here for a bit, do you?"
"Not all," was Jonas' pleasant reply as he looked up from his book to the girl. He set down his book with his free hand so he could offer her a banana. "Here. Potassium is good for after a work out, helps restore the nutrients you lose ," he was with a friendly smile. "And they're pretty tasty too."
Cissie blinked at the banana for a moment but accepted it gratefully. She needed the potassium, that much was true and hey - why look a gift banana in the mouth?
"Thanks!" She smiled and started peeling the fruit. "I'm Cissie, by the way. It's nice to meet you!"
"I'm Jonas, and it's nice to meet you too, Cissie." He said, picking up a banana for himself and peeling it awkwardly thanks to the sling. "It is a nice day for a run isn't it? Perfect temperature and humidity conditions." He rambled happily before he took a bite
New people showing up in New Atlantis always got Jack's attention even if he hadn't really been in a frame of mind to deal with it and he felt he owed it to new guy (Jonas? Was that what Sam had said his name was?) to stop and say hello. New guy looked like he was a nerd. Great. Another best friend for Daniel.
"Learning about uh..."
Jack tilted his head, trying to read the title of the book upside down. "...weather? I can tell you all about weather. Sun, sun and more sun."
The familiar voice automatically brought a smile to Jonas' face as he looked up. "Colonel O'Neill!" He said excitedly, glad for another familiar face. He knew the Colonel was on the island but Sam had been trying not to say something when she mentioned him. Considering they weren't in any relative danger here on the island, crashing space stations excluded, he'd let it go. "It's really good to see you."
When the subject matter of his book was announced, Jonas actually managed to look a bit bashful. "Well you know, sir, they don't have The Weather Channel here so I have to make due."
In his excitement, Jonas missed the non-recognition in O'Neill's eyes or he just chose not to see it.
Ohhhkay. So this guy seemed familiar with him, even called him sir, but Jack had absolutely no recollection. He never forgot someone under his command, even after years, and this bothered him. Maybe they hadn't met yet?
"Sorry buddy. What year is it when you're from? I'm from 2001, so. Any time after that and I've got no idea who you are."
Colonel O'Neill didn't know who he was. Jonas couldn't help but stare for a moment, a lump stuck in his throat as he attempted to swallow his previous happiness at seeing him. "Oh."
He was uncharacteristically quiet for a moment before he managed to smile again. "Well, then let me introduce myself. I'm Jonas Quinn. I've been on SG-1 for the last year with you, Carter and Teal'C." He didn't know if O'Neill knew why Daniel wasn't on the team till just recently and he wasn't sure if he was the best one to tell him.
Eli had heard about the new guy, but this was the first time he'd had the opportunity to approach him. He hobbled down the path on his crutches, still moving fairly slow on them, and stopped when he got close to the guy's spot. “Hey,” he called. “You're - Jonas, right? The new guy?”
"That's me." Jonas said as he looked up from his book with a friendly smile. "Jonas Quinn," 'Always the new guy,' he added in his head but his expression didn't show it, "at your service." He then cocked his head as he took in the other's injuries with concern in his eyes. Setting his book aside with his free hand, he moved to stand up, just in case. "Do you need some help?" He appeared to be moving just fine but you never know.
“Oh, no, I'm fine,” Eli said with grin and a quick shake of his head. “Still getting used to the crutches, but I'm managing. Besides, it looks like you've got your own injuries to deal with,” he added, eying the sling. “Were you hurt in the whole space station... thing?”
When the other man shook his head, Jonas settled back on the ground, since his side was protesting the attempt to stand. "Oh no, I got these just before I arrived here. Ended up getting shot in the side by a Jaffa." He didn't mention it was saving Daniel Jackson because really...it had just made them even for Dr. Jackson saving Kelowna.
But he did sit up a bit when he mentioned the space station. "You were up there?" He asked eagerly, wanting to hear about it. "What happened? I've only heard bits and pieces and they wouldn't let me help with anything."
After spending all day inside at the Psychology Office, Gillian needed a walk. Stretch her legs, breathe some fresh air, enjoy the sunlight - it was too pretty a day not to enjoy at least some of it outside. She'd stopped by her hut to change, then set off. She headed south and west, today, on the path that would take her through New Atlantis. It was a nice path for a walk, and not one she took very often.
When she spotted the man sitting by the tree, she smiled, then offered a little wave when she thought he'd seen her. “Nice day to be outside, isn't it?”
Jonas happened to glanced up just as she waved and grinned as he gladly returned it with his free arm. "It really is. It would be a crime to waste it indoors. Out for a walk or heading home?" He asked, since she was coming from the direction of the Compound and it was only a logical assumption.
He had an infectious grin, and she found her smile widening. “Out for a walk before heading home,” she told him, pausing on the path. “I've been working all day - inside - and I needed some fresh air.” Glancing around them, she added with a whimsical smile, “Thankfully, this place has that in abundance.”
"I can understand that feeling. I spent the last year living inside a base in a mountain. This?" He said as he waved around them, "Is as close to heaven as I can imagine. Not to mention the weather is just perfect. It's amazing!" From his sitting position, he offered her his hand. "I'm Jonas. Jonas Quinn. I'm new around here."
