Arya was watching the sky, but not because she was trying to spot the space station she'd been told was up there. She couldn't quite wrap her head around the idea, no matter that she'd had space and the idea of travel in it explained to her years ago, she still ended up picturing it like a black sea with a kind of raft in it. Made of metal, she ( Read more... )

Robb watches the circling falcon, but it's Arya's bird and he's done his share of hunting for the day already. He's sprawled out on the grass, his head resting against Grey Wind's side, content for the moment not to move any more than necessary.

"Look at you two," Arya said, Colette retrieved and hooded, pheasant in the other hand. She considered tossing it at him. "The mighty hunters."

Robb makes a face at her, waving dismissively. "We already did things. Important, tiring things."

"Big, tiring meals," she said, hefting the pheasant over her shoulder. She would have put a hand on one hip, but the gyrfalcon on one arm rather removed that as an option. "Important picking out of a spot to slack off in."

"Smooth moves," Veronica praised, although she didn't actually look at the falcon or its prey as it descended, gaze directed firmly toward Arya. She'd seen enough blood in her time, but that never seemed to make her less sickened by it. At least here it served a purpose. "I think your bird just outdid you."

Arya did keep an eye on the two of them, slowing down as she reached Veronica. Colette could grab an extra bite or two before she retrieved it.

"I don't have wings," she pointed out. "I don't mind being out-flown by a bird."

"Well, when you put it like that," said Veronica, "I guess it's a little less embarrassing." Either way, Arya could still outdo her any day. "No classes today?"

"I only have two on Saturdays," she said. "Martial arts in the morning, acting in the evening. It's kind of nice, having most of the day to get other things done."

"I wish I had wings," O-Ren remarked from where she stood beside the bird. The live one, anyway. "Except then I might have to sit on someone's hand and wear something on my eyes."

She sat down, sprawling her legs out in front of her, mindful for a moment or two not of the blood nearby, but that her legs were getting longer.

"Don't be silly," Arya said, crouching down beside Colette and carefully interposing a piece of meat from a previous kill between her and the pheasant, so she could lure the bird back onto her arm. "You'd never fit on my hand. I'd have to work something else out."

O-Ren laughed quietly, and watches Arya tempt the bird back onto her hand. "I think some parts of me fit your hand quite well," she said, and then lifted her face to the sky. "Did you hear that there's a space station up there?"

"I heard," she said, lifting her head to look in the same direction. "It's like a house in the sky? Or not a house, like the compound. And it just... stays up."

She knew about gravity, she'd taken physics, she still found it hard to imagine. She half-figured it was all to with magic, anyway, no matter however they'd done it back in the worlds they had things like that. Here, magic, seemed as reasonable an answer as any.
