Even though this was his fourth winter on the island, Xander still couldn't believe the snow. He was a Southern California boy, could you really blame him? He'd seen snow once in his life before then, when it had snowed one night due to some magic thing. Giles had explained it but since when did Xander ever stay awake for those ( Read more... )

When Saffron saw Xander, and especially when she saw what he was doing, she lit up with a smile. "What's this?" she asked, crouching down to pluck a mitten from the colorful pile. "Trying to start a snowman making party?"

"Well, I find once I start I can't stop. So I decided to be prepared." He grinned at her as he bent down to pick up the newly made head to put it in place. "Want to join me in making one boss lady?"

Good lord, he was adorable. "I'd love to, sugar," she replied, scooting over so she was next to Xander. "What do we do next, put his face on?"

"Oh yeah. Here!" He dug in his pockets until he brought out a handful of large pebbles and shells, while the other hand pulled out a carrot. "The carrot is the nose obviously and the peddles are for the eyes and mouth." He plucked out two particularly big shells. "Oh, these might be good buttons."

Fred had been spending as much time out in the weather as possible. Maybe it was her upbringing in Texas and then her time in Los Angeles that had her so fascinated with the snow, or maybe it was the fact that the weather was so unusual for a place that was normally home to a more tropical climate.

Either way, Fred had already been outside for a while when she found Xander. Her nose a little red, but she was still in good spirits, not really ready to go inside just yet. Besides, she wasn't really looking forward to seeing just what the bookshelf would give her that day. The day before, it had been all picture books.

"You know, I don't think I've ever made one of these," Fred said, noticing the half-built snowman and the pile of supplies.

Once Xander got the head ball in place, he turned to Fred with a grin as he clapped his gloved hands to get rid of the extra snow. "Neither had I, before the island. Want to fix that?" He asked with a grin. "We can build another one and then dress them both."

"Yeah, okay," Fred replied, expression brightening into a wide smile. "Oh! Or we could make a snow Durslar Beast! Though, it'd have to be a lot bigger than the other one..."

She studied Xander's first snowman, frowning a little as she considered it. They probably wouldn't be able to use any of the clothes for it, though.

Xander blinked. "Uh...this is where I stare blankly then ask what a Durslar beast is?" Then he considered the snow around them. "And how much bigger are we talking?" If she wanted to build one, he'd certainly give it a try!

"Oooo!" Claudia grinned, slowly moving around Xander's snowman. "I haven't made one of these in forever! Can I help??" She grinned at him. "Please?"

"Sure! Help me dress this one," Xander said as he lifted the head into place, "Then we can build him a friend. How are you Claudia?" He asked with a small laugh, since he'd probably see her at work that night.

"YAY!" Claudia all but squealed and moved to help Xander dress the snowman. Grinning, she spun the snowman's hat in her hands. "Oh I'm good. Still enjoying the snow, so that's somethin', right? How about you?"

Once he had the head steady on the body, he pulled a hand full of pebbles out of his pocket and started to form the face. "I'm doing good. Enjoying the weather while I can. I'd never really seen snow before the island." Once the face was done, he added some shells for buttons and pulled a carrot out of his other pocket for the nose. "There. What do you think?"

I was a California guy, through and through, and the sudden snowfall had me a little out of sorts. I'd been skiing before, so it wasn't like I'd never seen snow, but I was the kind of guy who visited snow, didn't have it to come visit him. Still, after a week of moping about it, I decided Savannah might be sick of me kicking around in her space and decided to go out in it.

"Is there any reason everything went all Seussical or is that the usual?"

Xander looked up from where he was lifting the snow ball head onto the body. "Not usually. It goes on a different theme every year. One year, it was right outta a snowglobe of the North Pole and last year it was a Russian winter wonderland. This year it's unusually....weird."

I nodded a little. Good to know that this wasn't the usual version of winter wonderland. Still, the fact that I accepted that so easily said something about my state of mind and the sheer ridiculousness of this place.

"I am really not used to all this snow. It's okay and I'm not going to pitch a fit or anything, but I really want the hot stuff back."

"Southern kinda guy? I'm from southern California myself, so I know what you mean. I like the snowy white stuff, but when push comes to shove...give me the warm and sandy anyday." Xander said agreeably as he pulled out a pile of pebbles and shells from his pocket.
