Today was a good sort of boring. Nothing crazy had happened and she'd been helpful with the clean-up. None of her (quickly dwindling) friends had disappeared in the past few days so it was like a strange break. A break she was definitely all about ( Read more... )

I am the kind of person that looks like I've never seen the sun in my life. In my defense, I've always burned so easily, and lobster red isn't attractive on anyone, thanks. But I've been making an effort to go outside more, too, with the knowledge that there's really no sense in being cooped up in the Compound anymore. If I can deal with being in that jungle in a place that was probably even worse than any dangerous zone in my game, I think I can take some walks down the path and on the beach.

I'm just in time to see Zoe out in the water. I end up just watching her flail because it's a little funny, even though I'm pretty sure I'd be worse if I went out there. I do end up approaching the shore after a minute or two, just beyond where the tide could reach.

"Hey," I call out, trying to get her attention. I've been walking alone for a while, so seeing someone I know is kind of nice.

Turning at the shout, Zoe was half-expecting to be responding to someone who wasn't actually looking for her. Not that she would have minded talking to a stranger or faking knowing what they were talking about it was definitely a relief to know the person.

Raising a hand she waved as she scampered back and forth in the surf. Now that the initial shock was over it wasn't unbearable but it definitely wasn't balmy. "Hey. Join me?"

I hesitate. What I'm wearing under my shirt and shorts, I know, can double as a swimsuit. But I don't usually go without the protective covering of clothing because, well, I burn like a lobster, and quickly at that. I guess years of mostly staying indoors didn't really help my already pale skin deal with the sun. After some consideration, I lean down to pull off just my shorts and shoes, so most of my body is still covered.

"Okay, I'm coming," I say, having a feeling I look a little ridiculous, and especially when I end up standing frozen waist deep with my arms up because a rush of a wave hit me and took away any hope of easing into the temperature change slowly. "Oh wow, that's cold. Wow."

"I know, right?" With a melodramatic full-body shake, Zoe figured that she would get used to it sooner or later. Besides that was the point, right? To cool off after baking in the hot sun.

She just hadn't figured that she was about to be flash-frozen. That seemed to be just a little on the dramatic side. "What happened to tepid oceans?"

Walking across the beach, the very last thing Brodie had thought he'd see was Zoe running full speed towards the water. Not that he was COMPLAINING or anything, he just hadn't expected it at all. He'd pretty much stayed away from the water himself, ever since going down with the fucking STARKTANIC. Sometimes, he STILL thought he smelled like ocean water.

"TAKE YOUR TOP OFF!" Brodie shouted in the direction of the water, figuring it was at least worth a shot.

Turning around, back to the waves that were rolling in Zoe lifted her hands giving the illusion that she was definitely about to do exactly that. There wasn't exactly much going on under her bikini top and it wasn't like she was ashamed of that. Switching mid-motion, she grinned and gave him a single finger salute.

"Only if you take yours off. For fairness sake."

"Really?" Brodie asked, eyes wide. He'd really only been fucking around when he asked, expecting a 'fuck off', but Zoe's answer was a hell of a lot more intriguing.

"You'll just have to trust me to find out, won't you?"

Heck, it was nothing. She was practically topless as is and if humiliation decided to stop by for an unexpected visit then she could just turn and jump fully into the ocean. Kids stuff, in a word. Easy to say and do.
