I'm just in time to see Zoe out in the water. I end up just watching her flail because it's a little funny, even though I'm pretty sure I'd be worse if I went out there. I do end up approaching the shore after a minute or two, just beyond where the tide could reach.
"Hey," I call out, trying to get her attention. I've been walking alone for a while, so seeing someone I know is kind of nice.

Raising a hand she waved as she scampered back and forth in the surf. Now that the initial shock was over it wasn't unbearable but it definitely wasn't balmy. "Hey. Join me?"

"Okay, I'm coming," I say, having a feeling I look a little ridiculous, and especially when I end up standing frozen waist deep with my arms up because a rush of a wave hit me and took away any hope of easing into the temperature change slowly. "Oh wow, that's cold. Wow."

Heck, it was nothing. She was practically topless as is and if humiliation decided to stop by for an unexpected visit then she could just turn and jump fully into the ocean. Kids stuff, in a word. Easy to say and do.
