The moment Angel had said he wasn't letting him out of his sight, Spike had done every thing in his power to take full advantage of the situation. Getting under Angel's skin had always been one of his very favorite pastimes, and this was quite possibly the most perfect opportunity to do so that he would ever get. He was, for the very first time, ( Read more... )

So far, Xander hadn't noticed anything odd about today. Sure, he'd woken up with Stacy in his bed when he'd gone to sleep alone, but that was starting to become more common then odd so that didn't count. Besides, it was comforting and he liked it so he wasn't about to say anything otherwise.

Since to him it was just a normal day, free of island hijinks, Xander was wandering down the beach on his way to work. When he saw Buffy, he grinned and waved. Ever since Angel had arrived, he hadn't seen her as much so a chance to see her was great! Helen would forgive for being late anyway. "Hey Buff, what's up? Taking a break from Captain Forehead and his sidekick, Bleach Boy?"

Sidekick?

Spike turned on him, eyes narrowed, ready to tear him a new one, when he remembered his situation, remembered all the advantages it afforded him, and he caught himself mid-glare, plastering on a bright smile and chirping, "Hey, Xander!" Sounded 100% authentic, if he did say so himself.

"Oh, you know how it is. Never a moment's peace."

Xander paused, the look Buffy had turned to him had been slightly terrifying. But then she smiled and everything seemed alright so he let it go. "With those two? I can image. Bleach for Brains baiting Deadboy every chance he gets to the old guy to snap. I don't know how you put up for it." He tried to hide the strained feelings that went through his head. He kinda missed it when his Spike had done that to him. Of course, it had led to a different kind of snapping. In bed. "Anyway, I feel like I never see you! When do I get some quality Buffy time huh?"

"Yeah, it's not like he doesn't deserve it," Spike muttered under his breath, before it occurred to him to keep his mouth shut, but then before he could say anything any more damning, he plastered on that sunny smile and said, "How about right now? We're both here, aren't we?"

Truth was, there were a few things about Xander Harris that didn't sit right with him, anymore. This could be the perfect opportunity to set a few things straight.

There was a gorgeous girl almost skipping along the beach in a sundress. Of course, there was also a tall, brooding figure a little way in the distance, a shadow of glowering and glaring, but I choose to ignore that because it spoils the image of the blond on a beach, hair billowing in the breeze... It reminds me so much of those quaint little romance novels that have become something of a crazy at home, and I smile my most charming smile and offer her a half-bow.

"Hello there," I said, perfectly charming as always, if I do say so myself. I'm great when I'm meeting terribly pretty girls. "How are you finding the evening?"

"As evenings go, I suppose I've seen better," Spike shrugged, but his usual drawl didn't quite work with Buffy's perky, California cheerleader accent. Didn't matter, though. He was perfectly fine with it coming out just a teensy bit coy.

"Seen worse, too, of course."

Ah, the coy blond girl pretending not to enjoy the evening despite the fact that she's out walking in it. I fell into step beside her, smiled a little more. "Have you now? Where is it that you come from that compares to this island?"

"Venice? Paris? Prague? Before the angry mob, of course. All quite lovely in the dark," Spike said, amiably enough, "I've been a great many places, all of them compare in their own way."
