Gilderoy, not to be outdone by his amazing decorations, had of course toiled away on a costume once the decorations were completed. He'd envisioned a awe-inspiring theme-appropriate design which wouldn't be as magical as it would have been back home, but one had to make sacrifices sometimes, especially living on Tabula Rosa ( ... )

"Thank you, my dear," he replied, straightening his posture even further than it already was. "But of course it had to be. I mustn't disappoint the fans, after all." As though fame were a burden Gilderoy was forced to bear.

"I do like the color of yours. I'm not able to pull that color off myself. It washes me out too much." It was almost a compliment.

She did a double take at the mention of fans. Was this someone else she should know? Like that writer Richard Castle? She hadn't recognized that one, and this man was no exception. Instead of saying anything in contrary to what he was saying, she just nodded her head and managed to keep a polite smile on her lips.

"Well thank you. I was actually trying for something a little less... Frilly, but the box had other thoughts."

"Oh I understand that," he replied. "It certainly didn't produce this magnificent costume on it's own. Luckily for me, I am skilled in other things besides being an amazing author and a Dark Arts defeater." He grinned. It wasn't his best alliteration, but it was better than naught.

Her smile grew, and her hand flew up to once again stifle the laugh that bubbled up. He had seriously made the outfit he was wearing and was proud of it? Somehow she managed to pretend to cough and lowering her hand, flashed him an apologetic smile. "Sorry about that... Uh, dry throat."

Her expression turned to one of puzzlement. "Dark Arts defeater? Can't say I've ever heard of that profession." Clearly the man was pulling her leg.

"Oh, goodness!" Lockhart exclaimed. "There's drinks over this way." He was already offering her his arm so as to escort her to retrieve a refreshing beverage whilst not missing her company.

"Well perhaps it's not quite Dark Arts Defeater as such. I battle the forces of evil to save the good people. Surely you've read at least one of my books. I've several published." At which point, he started listing off all of the books he'd ever had published, in alphabetical order no less.

"Break with a Banshee, Gadding with Ghouls, Gilderoy Lockhart's Guide to Household Pests, Holidays with Hags, Magical Me (autobiography), Marauding with Monsters, The Travel Trilogy, Travels with Trolls, Voyages with Vampires, Wanderings with Werewolves and Year with the Yeti."

"Oh thanks," Carolyn murmured, feeling obliged to take his arm and allow him to escort her. It was her own fault afterall.

Looking over at him as he lead the way over to the refreshment table, she shook her head. "I haven't heard of them before. Are they New York bestsellers?" Not that it would help if they were, but it was always nice to know.

"Uh... New York? Well muggles might find them interesting, but perhaps a work of fiction. No, no, bigger than New York. The whole Wizarding World," he replied.

"It's a little disappointing," he continued. "I was so famous, so well-loved back home and here, no one knows who I am. Well except for Harry, of course. He's a good kid."

"Muggles?" If it were possible, her eyebrows shot up even more. Where had she heard that phrase before? She couldn't think of where, but she was pretty sure she'd heard it before. She paused and held up a hand stopping him from continuing on. "You're a wizard? As in a wizard like Merlin?"

She was so focused on figuring out if this guy was from a world that had actual magic (if not he was clearly a nutjob) that she didn't even pay much attention to the rest of what he'd said.

"Oh yes, exactly like Merlin," he replied. "Order of Merlin, Third Class!"

"Ah here we are," he said, leading her to the beverage table. "Tropical punch perhaps?"

He certainly didn't look like an ascended being... But maybe in his world there was magic, but he still seemed a little off to her. Thankfully he didn't appear to be the dangerous sort of crazy, so she decided it wouldn't hurt to continue to talk to him. "Nice, now I'm beginning to feel very unglamorous in my choice of professions...." she commented, her lips twitching a bit in amusement.

""Thank you, tropical punch sounds nice." Maybe someone spiked it...

"What's your choice of profession?" he asked as he poured them both a glass of punch.

"Let me guess," he continued before she could answer. "You're a reporter!"

"What?" Carolyn asked, obviously surprised that he'd actually make such a deduction. "Uh no, I'm actually a doctor. Do I look like a reporter?"

Gilderoy looked at her dress then back up to meet her eyes. "Do you know Rita Skeeter?"

"Hey now! The box gave me this thing! And wouldn't give me anything else," Carolyn protested with a huff. "No, I don't know that person. Should I?"

"You remind me of her. In a way. Though perhaps it's just the dress." It was saying something for Gilderoy to be reminded of anyone at all, but journalists were important people to know.

"It's an important profession. What do you do?" he asked. Possible for the second time.
