"Hi. Welcome to the first meeting of glee club."

Oh God, I don't know how to do this without threatening them. What would Mr. Schue say? What would-- what would Rachel say? She lives for this."I'm Quinn Fabray, and I sing. I used to be a cheerleader, but I sing now. I really love singing, and we had this glee club at home. It's, um, it's a ( Read more... )

Quinn goes first, because she does know that you lead by example. She starts, a single clear voice in the silence, standing by herself at the front of the room. In her experience, accompaniment will join in later, and so will any harmonies. It's not a top 40 hit in any world, but she likes it, and it does what she wants them to do: express how she feels here.

"Sometimes I wonder," she begins, "where I've been, who I am, do I fit in? Make believing is hard alone, out here on my own--"

Quinn actually had a lovely voice and Zelda listened, head tilted slightly. The sharing of music had always been near upon sacred in Hyrule and many of her best memories had been of playing, of getting lost in a melody. Using her voice to sing made her nervous, but hearing someone else with a clear, strong voice gave her confidence to at least try.

"You've a very lovely voice."

It seemed trite, but it was all Zelda could think to say.

"Thanks," says Quinn, to the girl who looks-- well, a lot like that girl in Mamma Mia, which she'll never admit to watching on her own. "Next time, maybe we can do a harmony. You're not from... um, where are you from?"

God, she sucks so much at being nice.

"Hyrule," Zelda offered helpfully. "I'm not from earth, I'm from Hyrule. I assume you are from earth?"

Singing had never been something that Zelda had done for an audience. She'd played, harp and ocarina, but singing had always come secondary. Upon hearing about the glee club, Zelda had to do research. She wanted to sing things that people would recognize, would understand. Since most of the people on the island were from earth, she'd selected a song she hoped many of the other attendees would recognize and feel some sort of kinship with.

Gilderoy knew the song. While he's not entirely sure he's going to enjoy a Glee Club, not being the center of attention, he can't resist joining in. The Beatles were nearly as popular as he was.

His harmony certainly wasn't award worthy, but it could have been much, much worse. He was just warming up after all. His voice would get better. Or so he told himself. When they finished the song, he applauded. No doubt, it was mostly for himself.

It was passable, especially by her standards, and Zelda flushed a little. "I am so glad you knew the harmony. I wanted a song people would know."

"Ah yes, the Beatles are a great choice. They're a little known Muggle band back home. No where near as popular as I am, but then they're just musicians." Gilderoy rarely misses an opportunity to impress people with his fame.

Horatio clasped his hands behind his back, the fingers of each hand curled firmly around the palm of the other, holding perfectly still so as not to betray his nerves. He couldn't quite grasp how they were meant to perform music when they'd yet to learn a thing about theory or practise or any of the other mechanics he'd read about beforehand. He had so very much wanted to learn, and was disappointed, but Horatio bolstered his spirits with the thought that he might pick up more as they went along.

He did not want to sing, not at all, but neither did he wish to appear a coward. Bouncing up on his toes, Horatio waited for a break in the singing and assembled his words. They were to sing about where they were. Well, that didn't seem so difficult. With a final glance at their surroundings, Horatio opened his mouth.

The ocean in which it sits ought to have been named properly but it hasn't so I cannot elaborate
Currently I am in the rec room. It is in the Compound just past the kitchen.Horatio ( ... )

"That was terrible," Gilderoy began, unable to pass up a chance at touting his own talents over those of another. "But with practice even the most untrained voice can sound like pure gold." It was very likely that Gilderoy was exaggerating. As well as envisioning himself as the one to train the other man's voice much to the awe of everyone on the island of Tabula Rosa, of course.

Quinn has been sitting and listening, fanning herself with a rather nice fan from the clothing box, one that opened and closed with the flick of a wrist and had flowers on it. She snaps it shut, walks up to Gilderoy, and smacks him hard at the back of his head. "Hey, Pert Plus," she says, hands on pregnant hips. "He's trying, and all you're doing is being a creep. Respect the other glee clubbers or I swear to God I will hit you with my ring hand."

Gilderoy jumps when she smacks him. And practically covers before her when she threatens him. He's not used to people actually reacting to him or standing up to him. Most people go along with him, or shake their heads behind his back and make a completely different plan then feign surprise that things worked out differently than Lockhart had planned.

"Oh. Terribly sorry," he starts. It's kind of a mix between a whimper and a whine. "I was simply offering some constructive criticism. I didn't realize you would be providing the feedback as well."

Gilderoy Lockhart had come prepared to entertain. In fact, he'd prepared beforehand, trying to find just the right song. In the end, he'd stumbled upon some reel in the rec room with an elaborately dressed dancer who sang with a ridiculous accent. Gilderoy would never, ever admit to have been inspired by the reel. However, his outfit very closely matched what the character had worn. It had big, poofy sleeves, layers of flowing lace, feathers sticking out of the back, a Victorian-like collar, a pair of very tight bell bottomed pants that shimmered and it was completed with a pair of spectacular gold platform shoes. Additionally, as Gilderoy sang, he performed a dance very similar to the one he'd seen. Though he would say his dance was much better. The biggest difference was that Gilderoy didn't sing with the terrible accent.

"Oh, wow," says Quinn, because what else does she say. "You really worked hard to prepare. I can see that." She knows she's going to start trying to put together a Ouija Board to try and contact Mr. Schue from another dimension, because she's going to need it. "My mom really loves that song," she adds, a pained expression crossing her face.

"You did really well."

"Oh, thank you. Thank you," he says, just soaking up the compliments, but pretending as he hears them all the time. It's nice to have at least one fan on the island. Everyone else seems so unimpressed by him. Obviously they all have very big, unsolvable problems and their problems speak nothing of his sheer award-winning fantasticness.

"Thank you. It never hurts to put forth a good effort," he replies.

Hawkeye just stood and watched, mouth agape. The song itself was okay, he supposed; the lyrics were repetitive but the guy didn't have a half bad voice. But he was barely paying attention because he was so distracted by the dancing and the clothes.

When the man (what was his name? Something silly-sounding, was all Hawkeye could recall) slid across the stage, Hawkeye remained frozen a moment, and then began to clap.

"That wasn't a song so much as an experience," he said, and left it to the performer to interpret that as a compliment or insult as he wished.

Bill would never have claimed to have a spectacular voice; that was more Roger's department. He did like to sing, though, and he could carry a tune fairly decently, so when he'd heard about the Glee club he thought it would be something fun to join in on. It wasn't like he was looking for things to do, but it wasn't like he didn't have any free time either, and so he'd decided to check it out.

As someone who wasn't at all easily embarrassed, he didn't have a problem with singing in front of the rest of the group, even though he'd not been expecting it. So he picked the first song that came to his mind and sang it, accompanying himself on the guitar.

If the previous song had reminded Quinn of her mother, this one reminds her of her father, and she brushes away the little pangs of hurt to layer some light harmonies over his voice. When he finishes, she claps and smiles. "Nice," she says. "I have to admit I've never heard it with a British accent before."

Quinn tips her head. "You can play pretty well, too."

"Thanks," Bill replied, tipping his head in a sort of mini-bow. "I think my guitar playing's better than my singing, but I reckon I manage, at least."

"Can you play from sheet music?" Quinn wants to know. "Because, God, we need some accompanists."
