[clinic post]

It was another quiet day in the clinic. Jennifer had checked in briefly with the current patient, but there wasn't much to do for him right now. Everything was clean and in order, and after she'd brought herself up to date with recent clinic activity via patient files, she sat at the desk to work on wedding invitations ( Read more... )

Jack had forgotten just how badly it hurt to get caught with a hook and having finally reeled in a fish (nothing to write home about, but a catch anyway) he got so damn excited he ended up ripping a laceration into his palm. It'd need stitches, so he hiked his way up to the clinic to get it seen about.

Seeing it was Keller working brought a smile to his face and he held up his bleeding hand, tied up with a makeshift bandage.

"Think you can do some stitches and give me aspirin?"

"Of course," said Jennifer, getting up from the desk to inspect his hand. "Except for the aspirin part--that's an anticoagulant, and not a good idea for someone with a bleeding injury. You can probably have some acetaminophen, though. Have a seat for a minute."

She quickly washed her hands and pulled on a pair of gloves, then unwrapped Jack's hand to have a look. "How'd you hurt yourself?"

"Fishing," Jack admitted, slightly sheepish. "Got a set of tackle for...whatever holiday it was and got so damn excited about catching a fish that the hook caught me. It's not too bad, but it's a little deeper than I wanna just let go. You tell me?"

"Hmm." Jennifer examined his hand for a minute and nodded. "Yeah, you're going to need a few stitches, and I want to make sure it's disinfected. Do you remember when you had your last tetanus shot?" Probably recently; it was standard procedure to keep SG teams up to date on things like that.

When Ronon stuck his head in the clinic to see if Jennifer was busy, he was surprised to find her engrossed in writing. He didn't exactly think that Jennifer's job involved as much paperwork as her Atlantis job and he certainly didn't think it involved this much. But when he picked up a bit of paper and saw what it was it made sense. "This traditional?" he asked.

"Well, it can be," Jennifer explained. "They're invitations, which you usually give to people you'd like to invite to the wedding. Usually not written by hand anymore, though. You can go to print shops and have them professionally engraved or you can print them out on a printer at home, depending on how fancy you want to get. Of course," she added teasingly, "you really don't have to have them at all. You can just say, 'hey, we're getting married on this day, why don't you come?' But I thought I'd give it a try."

Ronon had just planned to tell people but as with most wedding details he was fine with what Jennifer wanted. He picked up one of the pens, examined the nib and tried out a line of calligraphy with slightly better results. "Want some help?"

"I could just let you do them all," Jennifer teased. "That looks pretty good. Not that I'm surprised or anything. Pull up a chair, I'm not busy." 'Not busy' was the case pretty much every day, and she was glad Ronon had stopped by. She needed the distraction.

Rodney's head appeared around the doorframe.

"I hear congratulations are in order," he said. "So, uh, congratulations- what are you doing?" he frowned, making his way into the room. "Are you drawing? Aren't you supposed to be on duty or something?"

"Thanks, Rodney--oh, I'm not drawing, I'm writing," Jennifer said, suddenly embarrassed. "And yes, I'm on duty, but I have one patient and he's asleep and I'm about to die of boredom."

"Well, that would...not be good," said Rodney. "If you died who would treat you? I'm a doctor of science, not of medicine, just so you know. So...don't go into boredom-induced cardiac arrest or something, please. Ronon would kill me if I couldn't revive you."

"I think he'd understand," Jennifer assured him. "I doubt he'd kill the best man, you know. Thanks for saying yes to that, by the way. Ronon's pretty happy that you said yes." She knew he was glad he had a teammate to ask, since he didn't really bond with people easily.
