When Marge lost Dickie, Peter hadn't been able to truly comprehend the loss. Perhaps a part of his mind had touted that he had never been a truly faithful man, but Marge still loved the man because everyone loved Dickie Greenleaf. Especially Tom. And Peter had loved Tom, to his own dismay ( Read more... )

Evey didn't usually have dinner in the compound, but she'd gone there to gather some references for one of her classes and, the bookshelf being what it was, it had taken quite some time to gather those references. When she'd finally done it, there was a lovely smell emanating from the kitchen so she thought she'd go and see if there were any leftovers.

She didn't expect to see Peter preparing a salad next to a table set for six and stopped short just inside the doorway. Intrusion on a dinner party one had not been invited to was very rude, and she wondered whether she ought to quietly slip back out of the room.

Peter glances up and sees Evey nearly out of the corner of his eye, surprised to realize that he really shouldn't have expected to be alone. "Evey," he breathes out in shock and trying to push out warmth and welcoming. "You caught me at a rather embarrassing moment."

"I'm terribly sorry," she replied immediately. "I don't mean to intrude. I just smelled something delicious and thought there might have been leftovers from dinner. I'll go, of course."

She was blushing in embarrassment at intruding on whatever this was and hoped Peter wouldn't be too upset with her for accidentally noticing a lovely smell.

"Evey," Peter is immediately pleading, hurrying to her side to gently place a hand on her back to try and coax her away from the door so that she doesn't leave. "Please. Stay. I'm entertaining invisible guests," he notes evenly with a heavy helping of self-deprecation in his tone. "If you stay, I might get to reclaim some of my sanity."

Sam, it seems, is insisting on walking today. Walking being kind of a generous term for what's occurring. He can take about five or six steps before dropping back down to his haunches, gearing up for the next go. It's cute...or it was about 30 minutes ago when they were at the front door of the compound.

Kate watches with an exasperated smile as Sam goes careening into the kitchen, eyes widening as she takes in the spread. "Sorry, Peter," she says, scooping a squirming Sam back up into her arms. "Sorry."

Peter lights up when he sees Sam and Kate enter the room and he puts down the stirring spoon in order to coax them closer with an arm. "Here, come, it's all right," he assures, extending the other hand as well. "Let me see my favourite little one!"

Kate hands him over a little warily as it's fairly obvious they're intruding. Sam could care less as he happily reaches up to pat Peter's face. "Hey, seriously I'm just grabbing something and I'll get out of your hair."

"Kate, really," Peter remarks, taking Sam into his arms and holding him carefully and protectively, not wanting anything in the world to hurt the little boy. "I've set places for six invisible guests. If you don't have anywhere immediate to be, I'd love if you and Sam stayed and ate with me."
