The singer was dreaming again.

There was really nothing particularly strange or odd about the scene at all. The sun was shining, which on the island was really an everyday sort of occurence. Brightly-hued birds were clamouring n the trees, swooping from one to another in quick flashes of garish colour. The ocean was at its brightest, the waves lapping playfully against the ( Read more... )

It had not been so much that Moril had nearly bumped into Eddara but that Eddara had nearly bumped into Ynen. Like all horses who were regularly in Eddara's company, Eddara considered Ynen hers. "Bump," she agreed loudly as Sansa caught up with her daughter and scooped her up to scold.

"Eddara," she said disapprovingly, "you know very well to stay away from horses feet - do you want to get trampled?" Eddara shook her head and looked repentant for a very brief moment.

"Cart," Eddara said hopefully. "Moril ride?" Sansa let her climb up beside her uncle - at least it was somewhat safer than chancing she wouldn't launch herself at Ynen's hooves again.

To be completely fair, Ynen did not move fast enough these days to trample anyone, but it was still wise advice. "Come on up then," Moril told her, though she was already clambering up. He glanced down at Sansa with the same faraway look. "Are you coming too?"

Eddara having finished climbing on the cart immediately tried to clamber on Moril - but only so she could kiss his cheek and then settle next to him.

"I will," said Sansa.

As Sansa climbed up into the cart, Eddara eyed her and clutched at Moril's arm. "Mine," she said firmly. "Not baby." It was of course Sansa reflected technically true - Moril would not be this babe's uncle, not that Eddara really understood this, she was just being possessive as she had been of late.

"That's not very sisterly of you," said Sansa, and Eddara pouted.

It was true, but Moril had a feeling Sansa would not appreciate him saying so--and it wasn't as if he had anything against other babies, but no, they weren't his the same way as this one was. And anyway, there was something more important in this to get to the bottom of--"Baby?"

"Nearly," Arya said, although she'd interposed herself mostly with the knowledge that they would, in fact, stop. "You're lucky your horse pays attention."

She held out her arm beneath Ynen's nose, then stepped in to stroke his neck.

"He's good at that," Moril agrees, unbothered, as Ynen noses at Arya's hand in hope of treats. "It's part of why he's good at this. How are you?"

"Same as ever," Arya said, leaning backwards to look past the cart at the tracks it had left in the sand. "How far have you been?"

Moril frowned, just a little. "All right. Stuck in one place too long," he admitted.

He'd seen them from some way off and raised a hand to wave, but the boy, lost in his thoughts has he was did not see or acknowledge him. It took the horse, gentle and complacent to stop in its tracks and wake the young man. Alain shaded his eyes, gazed up past the horse at the boy who wore a dreamy expression, and smiled faintly. "No harm done. Your friend here has the right idea of it," he said, lifting his hands to stroke the horse's muzzle.

"He's handy at that sort of thing," Moril admitted. Normally he was quite a bit more alert than he looked, but this hadn't been one of those times. "Still, I didn't mean to nearly go over you."

"If I feared for life and limb, I ought to have just stepped to the side," Alain said and patted the horse before he dropped his hand. "I had a feeling he wasn't about to trample me. Cry your pardon if I interrupted your thinking."

"You didn't, really," Moril assured him. "It's all right, anyway." He leaned over the edge of the cart to peer downward. "Where were you going?"
