Aya kept to his routine, which meant mostly keeping to himself and doing rounds of the Island every few days. Deep down he wasn't sure why he did it since there seemed so little change from one circuit to another, but he was a creature of habit and somehow it made him feel more like himself ( Read more... )

Aly's ears recognized it as Yamani, from her world, or else something unbelievably close. If her ears were hearing the lyrics right, she observed, a lesser girl may have blushed at the obvious sexuality of the words. Some of it didn't quite make sense, even to someone fluent in the language, but the intention came across clearly.

When she recognized Aya, she looked at him with a crooked grin, eyebrows raised. "Not your favorite song, I take it?" she asked, her voice sweet even as her face was all mischief.

ooc: God I love that song

"It's the first time I've heard it, though I'll be glad if I never hear it again." He said still glaring at the machine.

He turned to Aly giving her a grin. "Maybe this means I'll actually have luck with the bookshelf." He had never been a hopeful person, but perhaps the song was enough 'fun' for this place for one day.

She returned his grin, shaping it away from mischief and more towards plain friendliness. "Or perhaps the music is intended simply to give you false hope. There's no knowing with this place," she pointed out. Ignoring her own comment, she rose on tiptoes to get a look at the shelf and see if anything drew her interest.

"That is a very good point." Still he was willing to try. For the moment boredom was worse than whatever the bookshelf might throw at him.

He walked over and pulled a book from the shelf not paying attention to the title until it was in his hands, just in case the thing might try and trick him. "How to Care for Delicate Flowers?" He said as he read the title out loud. He got the joke, but he didn't find it the least bit funny. Maybe he shouldn't have pushed his luck.

Jo came into the rec room just in time to hear the person in there tell it to shut up. "That won't work," she told him. "I've tried it and it just ignores you."

"I figured as much." He said with a slight sigh. He would have felt silly not doing anything, though.

"Has anything worked?" He had a feeling the answer would be no, but maybe someone had come up with a way to distract the infernal machine.

Jo shook her head. "I've tried shouting at it, hitting it, throwing things at it and being nice to it. None of it has made any difference. But it often plays good stuff when other people are listening and I'm not here." She shrugged. "That's not very useful, though, unless you try and sneak up on it."

He had the feeling that sneaking up on it was likely to be very difficult indeed and it would be impossible to know when it was playing something for someone else so one could get in and out quickly before it noticed.

He glanced to her returning her shrug with one of his own. "I suppose it could always be worse." And really given time he could come up with all of the ways. "Did you come to get something to read as well?"
