Though she did have a single electric torch to her name Lyanna always worked by natural light while she left her daughter in Jenny's care, preferring the plodding dwindle of a flame to the rude surprise of a battery's sudden death

She'd ridden and now she walked with Ygraine in the sling that she had fashioned so that she could ride with the child in her arms. Lorica walked without needing to be led. When she saw Lyanna, she smiled, until she noticed her tear-stained face. Concern flickered through Jenny's dark blue eyes.
Lyanna grew hard at the sight of Jenny with Ygraine, weary but distant. She stayed where she was, gazing at her girls with all the intensity of a suspicious stranger.
The pensive moment lengthened as she slowly shook her head. Brought back to herself, she set her pot at her feet. "I must look a mess," said with a smile that did not reach her eyes. "I feel an old crone. How silly."
The look on Lyanna's face in that moment was unsettling, and Jenny's arms tightened around Ygraine. Strange things happened to men and women in the grasp of some sorrow.
"You look like our Lady," she said, gently, stepping towards her. "And nothing else."
"And nothing else," Lyanna repeated, stiff with uncertainty. Her eyes strayed to Ygraine with equal amounts love and fear.
"My sweetling is calm today," she noticed. Almost at once Ygraine shifted and began squirming in Jenny's arms, her quiet a temporary one born of confusion. "Jenny," she began, "Stay away from the caves for a while. There is nothing happy to be found there."
Dani Reese had been wandering again, quiet as she made her way through the caves she knew as well as the back of her hand. It seemed a good time for wandering and thinking, more so when she unexpectedly found herself turning into something that was not familiar. Lyanna's voice was easy to recognize as Reese moved forward, silent as she struck a match and lit her own lantern -- it wasn't something she did often.
"Lyanna?"
And then she stilled as light played off the statues.
Lyanna stiffened. Slowly, her head turned to follow the sound of her name. She smeared her hand across her eyes once more to clear her bloodshot vision.
"Mayhaps," she wondered, her voice surprisingly sturdy. She breathed deeply and put her face in her hands. "Once."
People always asked are you okay? in situations like this. Reese did not. The answer to that question was always clear. She moved closer until she stood within reach, her head canted slightly as she glanced at Lyanna. These were places to bury the dead.
Dead family and Lyanna among them.
She offered a hand, an arm, herself, or to carry the pot, even.
"Come into the sun with me," she said quietly, the edges of her words tilting slightly like a half asked question.
Lyanna lifted her head and pressed her mouth into a thin, stubborn line for Dani to see, the look in her glassy eyes one that commanded respect and obedience, even now.
She held a hand out not to take Dani's, but to hold her at bay. Stop. Stay. "Mn. Look at her," she snapped. "Why now?"
