There was a funny thing about heights. If you went too far, Sarah Jane was absolutely petrified and could only remember Skaro and dangling perilously about to fall to her doom. Put her in a tree, however, and it wasn't so bad at all. If she fell, she might wince for a moment, but it would pass. And apple trees sometimes felt made for straddling a ( Read more... )

It was hard not to miss a ball of paper falling in front of your face. Although Jo wasn't sure what it was at first, she just saw something moving right in front of her, gave a small yelp and jumped backwards. It was only then that she looked around for whatever it was and saw the ball of paper lying on the ground.

She picked it up, frowned at it, then looked up into the tree, where she could see someone hidden in the branches, but couldn't say who it was from this angle. So she did the only thing possible in this situation - grinned and threw it back.

Sarah Jane liked that sort of reaction the best. It sure beat someone scaling up the tree in a right cross mood and trying to make her feel repentant for her act or something like that. She poked her head out from amidst the leaves, a grin on her face. "Nice aim!" she praised the familiar face.

Jo smiled back at Sarah Jane, now she recognised her. "Thanks. But that was the only ammo I had." Presumably the paper ball had fallen back to the ground or got stuck in the tree somewhere, but she hadn't seen where it had got to."

Sarah Jane leaned backwards precariously once she was sure that she had stability and footing and showed off her notebook. "I've got scores more up here," she said. "But I have lost the element of surprise, so I think that marks the end of my offensive for today," she admitted with a rueful grin.

While accustomed (the hard way) to attacks from beneath and beside, a shot from above was the last thing Archie would have ever anticipated. But notice the attack he did, most especially when the paper projectile tumbled to the ground and was nearly crunched down to its true form again beneath his boot.

He stopped before things got that far, however, and picked up the little ball before looking curiously at the sky. Spotting Sarah Jane in the tree, as she was a bit hard to miss this way, Archie grinned broadly. "Why, Sarah Jane, are you causing trouble?"

"I think the proper answer to that is when am I not causing trouble?" she teased as she moved further out of the leaves (though some did catch in her hair) and straddled the tree branch dependably. She grinned mischievously at Archie and plucked an apple from the tree, lifting it up so that he could see it. "Here! Catch!"

"Ah, but then I can't ask if I might join you," Archie countered, grinning in his own mischievous way. He watched her closely, positioned below the tree as he was, and eyed the apple. "Now there's no reason to go wasting good fruit, Sarah Jane."

"Oh, don't be silly, Archie," she teased in return, the sparkle of mischief in her eye saying that she was going to be nothing but silly for a moment. "Just open your mouth and bite down at precisely the right moment and we won't waste a thing!" she brightly noted, waving the apple back and forth.
