The bookshelf didn't really agree with Don - he looked through it for a couple of minutes, testing it. It was full of tourist guides to Paris, which Don really didn't want to look at, thank you very much, but he could still learn some French to pass the time... Then the bookshelf gave him a guide for a perfect weekend between friends. It was too much for Don. His face went pale, and he put the book back with shaking hands.

Don was going to leave. He wanted to go anywhere else, change his mind, get some fresh air. His head was starting to hurt - but then he noticed the young woman on the couch. She didn't look much younger than him (18, maybe 19?), and seemed much, much more normal than everyone else he had met on the Island so far. She had shiny, long blond hair ( ... )

Though it was a moment before Lucy realized she was the one being spoken to, she glanced up when she did, a faint smile on her face as she shook her head. It was, after all, a public room, and she had no reason to be bothered, not even with the jukebox singing at her, which it was prone to do.

"Not at all," she replied easily, lifting one shoulder in a shrug. "I was just reading a little, not a big deal."

Damn, she had a pretty smile. Contagious, too - it was a small smile, but it cheered Don right up from the place he almost went in his misadventures with the bookshelf.

"I'm Don," he held out his hand. "I'm kinda new around here... Haven't been able to get a decent book out of that thing yet!" He chuckled, pointing with his other hand to the offensive shelves.

"Lucy," she replied, taking the offered hand with a slight laugh. That he was new at least explained why he hadn't looked familiar; after nearly two years here, she'd seen most people at least in passing. "It can be pretty fussy, the bookshelf. Usually takes me a long time to find anything remotely worthwhile."
