pink is manly

Not only were all his clothes dirty, but half of them were in disrepair, to the point where he was going to wash them and rip them up for rags (Susan was particularly pleased at this; she claimed she was tempted to use some of his older shirts whether he liked it or not). So not only did he have a bag of clothes to wash, but he was commanded to ( Read more... )

"You know, if you'd let me mend your things once in a while, you wouldn't have to wear that," Susan commented, balancing her own clothesbasket on her hip and trying not to smirk.

"You told me yourself some things were past mending." He heaved a sigh. "And it gave me plenty of trousers." He gestured at the pile of khakis and jeans that he'd found; all of them fit and looked just fine. For whatever reason, it had decided to get punchy about shirts.

"If you had let me mend them before they got that far gone, you wouldn't have to wear that," Susan amended. "Honestly. Boys. You'd probably walk about in a pair of swimming shorts all the time if you thought you could get away with it." She was only teasing of course, but there was some truth to it. Robb certainly dressed better since Jeyne showed up, and if Jon was left to his own devices he'd probably just wear black all the time.

He shrugged, an acquiescent smile on his face. "True enough, I guess." He grinned. "Back home, someone else was usually there telling me what to wear and what to do with it." He shrugged. "I usually think trousers and some kind of shirt are good enough."

It's laundry day for Jen as well, and she's got a basket full of her clothes and undoubtedly some of Priestly's as well as she heads down to the mini laundromat area. "Is the clothes box being difficult?" she comments to the guy, who looks a little frustrated, on her way to one of the open washers.

"Completely," he said with a sigh. "It seems to have run out of patience, right around now." He shook his head. "If you're looking for something with ruffles or glitter, though, I'm sure I could find something for you."

"I'd take you up on that, if I was the ruffles and glitter type," Jen says with a laugh as she starts up the washer and adds detergent. "But thanks for the offer." She starts putting clothes in, picks up a pair of boxer briefs that are definitely not hers, shrugs, and throws them in the washer.

He noted the briefs with a smile; people had all types of family here. It was part of what made life on the island interesting. And delightful, more times than not. He turned back to the box, digging a little further, hoping for something a little less sparkly.

A second later, the machine began to shake violently just as Jon passed by on his way to his own rendezvous with the clothing box, causing him to startle almost as badly as Peter had. "Why do they do that," he wondered aloud, glaring back at the rattling box.

"I honestly don't know," he said, recovering his wits and maybe some of his dignity. "It's unnerving."

Jon thought privately that it was somewhat of a comfort to know the machines' strange behavior wasn't only unnerving to those who had never encountered electricity before coming to the island. "Too bad they're so damned useful," he said with a shrug, leaning down to root through the box. The first t-shirt he pulled up looked promising, until he turned it right-side out and discovered it emblazoned with the word KISS in silver letters.

He smiled, nodding to himself. "True enough," he said, shaking his head. His brow furrowed, looking at the shirt Jon had dug out. "What on-"
