Being stuck on the island is often like being a child stuck at home during the widest days of their summer break: If you're athletic-minded, there's a plethora of obvious activities to keep you occupied; if you're not, you're limited to what little diversion is available inside or in your imagination, and some days are better than others. Grabbing up a chair, I drag it over to him and spin it around, settling astride it with my arms folded over the back. With a smirk, I reach up and yank the damp clump of hair out of his mouth, ducking down to catch a glimpse of the cover of his book.

"That's a good one."

"It's time for a haircut," Sirius replies, tonguing briefly at the corner of his mouth where the hair had previously been lodged. "Too bloody hot for this mop." When he'd been first arrived, he'd nearly cut it himself, nearly enlisted the help of any one of half a dozen willing young women. James had thrown a temper tantrum at the idea, too much change too soon, and Sirius had abandoned the idea for months. Things are different now. Maybe he needs a change.

"Maybe we ought to have one of these things round here," he suggests with a wave of the book, mostly teasing.

"I can go grab a pair of kitchen shears and hack it all off, if you want," I offer with a grin, giving one of the goofy curls of hair framing his face a tug.

"What, you think you need a little toughenin' up?"

"I'm sure you'd love that, but I should let you know that I'm not Samson, and cutting all my hair off won't make me any less irresistible," Sirius quips in return with a smug smile, and slouches back in his seat.

"Maybe I just want to punch someone," he hazards, although that doesn't seem quite right.

Though Jude is definitely one to hole himself up in one place for long periods of time, Max's hut just isn't spacious enough to facilitate another week within its walls. The compound had served as a place to find a little conversation, coffee, and paper, but on hot days (and what other kind do they have, he wonders, freak blizzards aside) the rec room is a bit crowded for his tastes ( ... )

It's several minutes before Sirius notices he's being watched, too used to dreamy stares from teenage girls to pay it much mind most days. He slides a glance slowly over to the bloke at a nearby table, looks from his face to the pad and back again.

"If you draw me naked, do me a favor and make sure I'm well endowed, yeah?"

While he'd been hoping the book would hold the man's attention long enough for him to get away with a few lingering gazes, Jude isn't disappointed that he's been caught. Sending a smile across the tables while still bent over the pad, he continues to flesh out the shape of all that dark hair.

"If I'd wanted to do that, I'd be buying you a drink and asking if you wanted to come back to my place." It's not yet an invitation, but he could always keep the guy in mind once he's settled enough to go looking for models.

"That's a new one, most people skip the drink," Sirius drawls in reply as he lowers his novel. This one has that sort of dark warmth about him, like a cup of good coffee; Sirius fancies him the sort of "artist" who prefers to find his inspiration in bed. He's got the look.

Were things different, he might push that innuendo into something else, but they aren't.

"I know it looks like straw, but it isn't," James commented on Sirius' hair that had apparently become a pacifier, actually sweeping his hand as he passed, along the denim covering Sirius' arse that he was just sticking out. He was seemingly passing through and he really was, but he wasn't going to without some comment, if only to acknowledge Sirius was there.

That little bit of public intimacy doesn't go amiss, and Sirius stills a moment before slowly lowering his novel. "I'm going to have it cut," he answers, and arches a brow James' way when he comes into view. James had made such a fuss about it the last time, Sirius can't help but wonder if he'll care now.

Were they going to go through that again? Looking over his left shoulder, he shrugged it, careless. "It's your hair," he said, knowing he was pushing it. "Who's going to cut it?"

"That Shane girl, the one who looks like me," Sirius answers, carefully tracking James' movements. "Well, like me when I was a girl. D'you know her? It's a bit trippy."
