“Well,” Aly said to herself thoughtfully, leaning back in her chair as Dove walked out to her assembly. “Looks like I’ve extended my little vacation indefinitely. It’s probably for the best.” She looked down at her desk, covered in reports and coded documents. “I wouldn’t wish this mess on anyone.” The thing about being an accessory to a great god’ ( Read more... )

There is no experience that quite prepares one to see a person appear out of thin air. Moril has seen a lot of strange things, both on the island and before it, and once before he even saw this--but he's still left rubbing his eyes, wondering if he'd somehow mistaken it and there really was a girl on the beach two seconds ago.

Perched in a tree, in the midst of checking his snares for birds, he waits and watches for a moment as she gets up and looks for something.

"You all right?" he calls then, for lack of anything more appropriate to ask.

Aly wasn't expecting to hear a voice from a tree, though her sharp ears caught the direction of the question immediately, and she spun on her heel to look up at the boy. "I...I believe I am," she said, making her voice shake just the smallest bit. "I've no idea what's happening to be honest!" Curious, she walked up to the tree to get a better look at him. She would have loved to scale up there with him, but it was harder to do in a sarong, and perhaps a skill she shouldn't reveal just yet anyway.

It's just tree-climbing, he might not notice one way or the other. Then again, sometimes Moril notices everything. "Of course you don't," he says sensible, fastening the snare again and hopping down from the branch. "I saw you appear."

She took a step back when he landed in front of her, wearing a stunned face, though privately she thought the boy reminded her a bit of Nawat, the way he jumped with ease. "Yes," she agreed, lips pursed. "It seems I did appear...but where or how, sir, is my question."

Wonder Girl was on patrol when she came upon a girl looking kind of out of it after appearing out of no where.. She knew that expression well. The expression of the just arrived. She sighed and prepared herself to give the spiel she was beginning to have memorized as she gave the girl a few minutes to get put back together.

Dressed in her uniform, Wonder Girl walked out from where she'd been leaning against a tree. "Hey there. You alright?"

"I'm all right, I think," Aly replied, brushing a few more grains of sand from her sarong. "I'm a bit confused, I must admit. This certainly isn't my mistress' house...or any house at all."

"Believe me, it's a common thing for the newly arrived." Wonder Girl replied with a friendly smile. "This is going to sound totally bogus, but wherever you just were, your not. Instead, your on a magical island that pulls people from different places and times." She realized she might be going a little fast, but the girl seemed like she could handle it.

Aly's eyebrows raised. "Mithros and the Goddess," she uttered, looking surprised. Well at least everyone's stories corroborated; she was on a mad island the plucked people from time and space at whim. "I guess it goes without saying that these aren't the Kyprish Isles?"

"Oh, Farson's balls, Glue, do you mind?!" For a horse that hadn't wanted anything to do with fording the river Bert had nearly drowned in, Glue Boy sure was fond of prancing in the surf. Normally such a thing would've amused Cuthbert, and it did a little, even now, but for the love of Gan, they were meant to be on patrol now, not capering along like a circus act!

He dug his heels in and only earned a snort of derision from his faithful steed. Bert rolled his eyes and loosened his grip on the reins. He tossed his hair out of his face (looking suspiciously horse-like himself in the gesture) and squinted ahead, down the beach. His stomach dropped.

Seeing a new arrival actually arrive had happened to him a few times, and the sensation was not unlike spotting a falling star, in that it was rare and interesting, and also that it was like a great big fiery disaster that someone was going to have to deal with. It seemed that this afternoon, that person would be Cuthbert. He gigged Glue and rode forward, slowing down as he got close.

When Aly saw a horse coming toward her, she instantly jumped to the side, out of its way. "Oh!" she gasped, acting surprised as she mentally calculated how quickly she could attack or get away in case he proved to be an enemy, even with the disconcerting lack thereof for her being a randomly appeared stranger. "I, ah," she began, glancing between him and the horse as though she were afraid of them. "Hullo."

"Hullo," Cuthbert echoed, not unkindly. "I take it you're a new arrival--"

Glue Boy gave a shuddering sign, and Bert leaned forward to pat his neck, soothing him and hopefully the girl as well. "Shh. Sorry-- you're new?" He squinted against the sunlight winking off the waves behind her.

"I am, yes," she admitted, letting her gaze flicker back and forth between horse and boy just a little more before letting it settle on the horse as though she was nervous. Privately, though, she admired what looked like a very good horse. "I'm Aly, sir. Aly Homewood," she added, using the name she'd made up for herself while a slave.

Appearing. Disappearing. People came and went right in front of her, now. Reese felt the air shift, almost. it wasn't an emptiness, but a filling, like the island had indigestion and just happened to plop a full formed person out. It happened between blinks, which annoyed her, because just one of these days, she wanted to really see it.

Dani Reese had long found that she was complete and utter shit at greeting new arrivals. She wanted to say, 'Welcome to Hell' but it wasn't Hell to some people, so that wasn't even accurate. Instead, she just frowned and crossed her arms.

"I hope you like fruit," she said, eyebrows arched. "Because there is alot of it here."

"Fruit?" Aly asked, because that was probably one of the odder greetings she'd heard, even for someone who was practiced in having multiple gods push her around. Or at least they'd tried to. "I can't say I'm opposed to it ma'am," she let a little bit of a lower city accent slip into her voice, turning 'ma'am' into 'mum' to make herself sound younger, "and I think I'd prefer them to simmered chili chicken stew." Over a year of Copper Isles cooking, she was sure, had permanently dulled her tongue just a little.

"Fruit," Reese said wryly. "I got used to it after awhile." She shrugged lightly and looked the young woman over for a few measured moments. "I've never had chili chicken stew, couldn't tell you if it was better than fruit. If you want to give this place a name, pick an insult. It fits it better than the 'official' one, which happens to be Tabula Rasa."

Okay. It wasn't really a pissed off day, it was a peevish, bitchy, cranky day with a little bitterness as a dash of seasoning. Great. She took a breath and attempted to adjust the attitude...slightly.

"You'll be staying here for awhile," she said with a soft snort. "Happy Surprise Vacation Day." There was a slight, if not entirely thrilled smile that accompanied that particular announcement. "I'm Reese."

"And here I'd thought I was already one one," Aly said wryly. "At least fruit doesn't burn your tastebuds off; Kyprish Islanders are fond of their chilis, but the name doesn't sound remotely Kyprish, or Yamani," she said, naming the second nearest island nation from where she came from. Despite it all, Aly still felt calm. Part of it was the calm that came from thinking she'd eventually be able to harass Kyprioth until he cracked, but she suspected it was largely because she had thirteen knives on her person, all concealed.

Saffron was still trying to think of a name for her new bunny. She had a couple of ideas, but she wasn't in any hurry to decide, wanting something that was perfect for the little fluffball, the gift from Lloyd that was petite and ginger just like Saffron herself.

She was walking along the beach, bunny snuggled comfortably against her cleavage, when she spotted a skinny teenage girl she'd never seen before. That might have meant she was new, but not necessarily. Saffron gave the girl a friendly smile. "Hi there."

Aly looked at the woman with the appropriate expression of bewilderment, which gave way to a smile when she saw the rabbit. "Hullo," she said, letting a touch of Lower City burr stick to her words. "What's going on?" Aly hugged her arms to her frame, letting her fingertips brush the spot on her left side where she knew a knife was snug under her layers of clothing, outwardly making the picture of someone who was a bit lost and nervous.

Interesting. Saffron took in the girl's appearance, her outward expression nothing but friendly curiosity. Either the girl was really that skittish, or she was very, very good. "I reckon that means you just showed up here," she said kindly. "Wherever you were before, you're not there anymore. You're on an island, called Tabula Rasa. Folks show up here without warning, and leave the same way, though not by choice either one. I know it's a real shock at first."

"But I was just in Rajmuat a minute ago," Aly said, loosening the hold one of her arms had around her, reaching up to scratch just behind her ear. "But there's no city here or anything." Then she straightened, making a quick curtsy, or as much as one could make in a sarong, "My name's Aly, by the way. Aly Homewood."
