So he'd completely smegged things over with Krissy, but it really wasn't his fault. The Island had been the one who'd decided to smeg with his personality in the first place, and Krissy had been the one to expect it to stay a copy of her perfect 'Dave'. He'd never claimed to be, and he never wanted to be. She couldn't say, now, that he'd never even ( Read more... )

Cameron's nose wrinkled at the smell, and she looked up from where she was pouring a cup of coffee.

"It's gone bad, that's what it is. Did you swallow any of it?" The idea of treating for that here didn't appeal to her, and she wondered vaguely who was in the clinic now. Instead, she set down her coffee and went to get him a glass of water. "Hold on, you'll want to rinse out your mouth."

His eyes watered, as he coughed and wiped at his mouth with the back of his hand. That was among the worst milks he'd tried--and there had been quite the variety in the different ships they'd passed by over the years. Now the smell turned his stomach, and he shoved the container of milk away from him.

He registered the presence of someone else, and what they were saying after a moment, and shook his head. "No-I don't think so. Who leaves the milk in that smegging long?"

"Typically, the kitchen staff is pretty on top of things," Cameron said. "But there's never any reason to rule out something being placed here just to screw with your head." She held out the glass of water. "Here."

Spoiled milk spawning into existence wasn't the strangest thing he'd come across over the past few years. Smeg, it wasn't the strangest thing he'd seen before he'd woken up 3 million years later than he'd planned to. It was still irritating.

He took the glass with a grateful nod, before gargling the glass, and spitting it out into the sink. It didn't rid him of the aftertaste, but it wasn't so overpowering afterward.

"That was disgusting."

In an effort to cut back on smoking, Max has upped his caffeine intake. He isn't sure it's doing anything aside from make him jittery (And consequently drive Daisy crazy), but it gives him something to do with his mouth.

All he'd wanted was a cup of coffee, it didn't even have to be fresh. And now he's standing in the middle of the kitchen, blinking away sour milk as it drips from his hair and face.

"When in doubt, throw it out," he deadpans, and sputters out the bit of milk that had managed to get in his mouth when he opened it.

The milk was downright disgusting. He'd gotten used to some pretty strange milks over the years, but this one was completely bizarre...and spoiled, to boot. He dropped the container onto the counter, and wiped away the droplets of spoiled milk on his chin with one arm.

He blinked over at the man who'd been unfortunate enough to be within the blast range of the foul stuff, and frowned slightly. "I just-why can't someone finish it before it turns?"

"It usually helps if you sniff it first- Could you hand me a towel?" Max asks with a long-suffering sigh, motioning to where various dish towels are hanging from hooks and off of drawer pulls. He plods over to the sink and proceeds to splash some water over his face, trying not to breathe too deeply, although he doesn't know how well it's going to work. He'll probably need another shower.

He scrubbed his shirt down with one hand, and reached over to grab the indicated towel with the other. He didn't generally stop to smell his food before eating it. Of course, he rarely needed to. If you couldn't smell a curry across the room, it wasn't a curry. It was an abomination of a food pretending to be a curry. If you could smell the milk across the room, it was probably Kryten's self-cleaning fluids.

He wrinkled his nose and grimaced as the aroma wafted up at him. "Smeggin' hell, that's vile."

"That is an utter mess. You'd better clean it up," Kristine told him archly. She had, unfortunately, chosen that particular moment to enter the kitchen, but luckily she was well out of the blast radius. She skirted around it, refusing to look at Lister or acknowledge his presence much beyond her initial comment. Yes, she was still mad at him - he had tricked her, taken advantage of the situation and hadn't even let her pick out a proper dinner jacket for him. She was perfectly justified in her anger.

If only he'd do something disgusting enough for her to arrest him now that she was on the IPD. The idea of Lister in jail for putting the salad cream in the cupboard was extremely appealing.

"I'm not cleanin' that up! Someone else left the smegging spoiled milk in the fridge, they can clean it up." He planted the container of milk on the counter and wiped his face clean with his free arm. The shock of the strong smell and taste of the milk was sidetracked by the sudden appearance of Kochanski, but he'd get back to that shortly. How anyone could leave milk long enough to spoil in a place this crowded was beyond him.

"Do you even know what unspoiled milk tastes like? I'm surprised you can tell the difference," Kristine responded nastily, heading towards the coffee pot to make herself a cup.

Black.

He scowled at the milk. "It doesn't taste like the Cat's shaving gel, that's what it tastes like."

At least the Cat's chemicals had the decency to go away after it was no longer directly applied to one's taste buds.

Taking a break from re-organizing the IPD files, Arnold headed into the Kitchen for a quick snack. He arrived just in time to see Lister spew milk all over the place and utter a familiar curse. In spite of the fact that he was trying not to be such a smeghead all the time, the site of Lister in such obvious distress still brought a smile to his face.

"Listy! Did you actually manage to find something that even your clapped-out taste buds couldn't handle?"

For a few good moments, he was disappointed that Rimmer had managed to dodge the spoiled milk. He made no attempt to disguise this fact, as he smacked the milk down on the counter, and wiped the remnants of the spoiled milk from his mouth.

"Smeg off, Rimmer."

Lister's attitude did nothing to diminish Rimmer's amusement. If anything it added to it. Some habits were apparently harder to break than others. Still smiling, Rimmer grabbed a towel and tossed it at Lister.

"What did you do anyway? Grab the goat's milk instead of the cow's milk and give yourself a nasty surprise?" He reached for the glass to get a closer look at its contents.

He scowled irritably for a moment, mopping up any of the missed milk droplets on his outfit. If he didn't know him better than to think him capable of plotting ahead like that, he might've wondered if Rimmer had swapped that spoiled milk in just for this.

"There was only one smegging milk jug in the fridge."
