The fight with Neil had left Logan feeling many things, but strangely enough anger wasn't one of them. Funny, because not that long ago a fight like that would have left him seething, or staring down the barrel of his own gun. Whichever ( Read more... )

Jack was walking with Vala. She'd twisted herself around his arm and was talking endlessly about baby names and Daniel and food, nothing new. Jack was just quiet and appeared to be listening. Or contemplating whether or not he could get away with gagging her and tossing her in a closet. His blank expression changed and lit up when he saw Logan emerge. He looked different. He looked older. He looked bruised. He opened his mouth to say hello...

"Don't you look good enough to eat?" I said, letting go of Jack who wasn't nearly as interesting as Logan at the moment. I walked over to him and ran my hand down his arm, then took hold of the bend of his elbow.

"Except that bruise. What have you been doing, Logan?"

Logan rolled his eyes a little as the pair drew closer, unsurprised by the fact that Jack wasn't alone. Some days it seemed like the other man was everyone's friend, a thought that made him gag a little.

Turning his attention to Vala, his gaze settled on her baby bump before sliding up to her breasts and eventually her face.

"Glory hole on the basement level. Those boys play rough," he quipped dryly, his tone level but not unpleasant.

I heard Jack snort and looked at him long enough to know there was something I was missing. I hate that feeling. It's generally in my best interest to glide on past things like that.

"You should be more careful," I decided, tracing the mark with my finger lightly before I moved on to his hair. "I like this. Short. You look like one of the many men on the base. Honestly, military men have no creativity when it comes to expressing themselves."

I heard Jack mutter, "That's kind of the point," but otherwise keep quiet.

Recognizing Logan from the (nicely sculpted and very appealing) back, Saffron walked up behind him and slipped her arms around his waist. "This is a new look for you," she observed, resting her chin lightly on his shoulder blade, at an angle where she couldn't yet see the bruise. "I like it."

The smile faded, just for a moment, and he tensed a little before he heard Helen's voice. A beat later and the smile was back in place, and he turned slightly to get a better look at the redhead.

"My stylist said I needed to show more ear. He's a weird fetishist with a thing for lobes though, I probably shouldn't listen to him," he joked easily.

"I don't know, I think he gave you some good advice. You have very cute ears," Saffron replied, a bit teasingly.

"The shirt's tighter than I'm used to seeing on you," she continued, admiring how said shirt looked as she walked around to his front, one palm going to his chest. "It's very-" Whatever she'd been about to say was cut off as she looked up at his face and caught her first glimpse of the bruise on his cheek. She lifted her hand to gently cup his chin, frowning as she turned his head slightly for a better look. "What happened?"

"If I go with my alligator wrestling story, is there any chance of you taking that for an answer?" Logan asked. "It's- It's a long story, not one that puts me in the best light. I don't really want to talk about it. I wish I could tell you the other guy looks worse, but I've seen him, and- Well, actually he does look worse. He kind of looks like a slowly decaying shell of a human being, but I didn't do that with my fists, so I'm not taking the credit or the blame."

Harry didn't shave in public. Any personal matters he could do in his hut, he would. When he came out of the hut he wanted to look as if he never looked different. He did need razors for that, and a few other items, so every so and so time he went for them in the bathroom.

Just then Logan walked out. He recognised the look on the boy's face, and the bruise on it. It was like a cat who got into a fight with a bird too large to kill with one bite, but who fought and won. Mischievous but triumphant, or perhaps that was just what Harry chose to see.

They hadn't parted well last time - not well at all - but he still liked Logan a great deal. "'Llo, kid. You all right?"

The smile on Logan's lips faded slightly as he found himself face to face with Harry, and he straightened up slightly as he slid his hands into his pockets and offered a small shrug.

"I'm fine," he replied, clearly suspicious of why Harry would care after their last run in with one another. Things between them had ended on a frosty note, and, if he was honest, part of the reason he'd been so pissy the last few days had been thanks to Harry comparing him to a puppy.

And when Logan would not act like a puppy, Harry would stop comparing him to one. There were worse things to be compared to.

Their last argument hadn't left him unstirred either, but he had calmed down since. In the mean time, Harry cared, because Harry cared about Logan.

"Bump up against a tree, did ya?"

"More like punched in the mouth by my ex-husband. He's not very tree-like. More of an angry sapling," Logan replied, shrugging again and glancing away. "I apparently need to either keep things bottled up longer or not bottled up at all, 'cause apparently spilling six months of venom in one sitting is enough to earn you one of these," he said, pointing at the bruise.

"Now what the hell am I gonna do when I want to ruffle your fucking hair?" Joe asked, reaching up to ruffle Logan's hair anyway, although it sure as hell didn't have the same feel that it once did. He noticed the bruise, but he didn't say anything about it, only because he was sort of assuming that Jack had given it to Logan. What they did in their time together, Joe had decided, was not his business.

"I'm un-ruffable," Logan replied, ducking his head when Joe tried to muss his hair. "I'm just trying something new," he shrugged, slipping his hands into his pockets and leaning back against the wall.

"Didn't you hear? I recently made it my goal in life to ruffle you up anyway," Joe answered with a grin, although he made no further attempt to do just that. Not yet, anyway.

"You look kinda cheerful. What's up?" he asked.

"Freak," Logan snorted, rubbing the bruise on his jaw and looking down at his feet. "I'm not really in a good mood, I'm just- I dunno, not in the mood to be in a bad one? I kind of had a shitty morning. You, uh, see Neil at all today?" he asked, as casually as he could manage.

"Oh!" said Anne, startled to turn a corner with some tins from the storeroom in her arms - one too many tins, really, which made the journey a bit of a blanacing act - and find Logan right there in front of her. Though because it was Logan, and because she was too distracted just at the moment to spot his injury, she thrust her overloaded arms in his direction. "Could you help me get these to the kitchen?"

echolls_cursed April 16 2009, 15:10:50 UTC
Logan took the tins with a soft laugh, and nodded. "Uh, yeah, sure," he agreed, following her as she led the way.

After all, it wasn't as if he could tell her no.

"Where's Matthew? he asked, making conversation as they made their way through the compound.

island_anne April 16 2009, 15:17:12 UTC
"With his Grandpa Joe," said Anne, "who does like Matthew to himself from time to time. It's been a blessing to have the two of you two watch him for me when I have things that need to be done."

"Yeah, well, would it be totally wrong of me to say he's my favourite out of all the island kids?" Logan grinned, putting the tins down on the counter once they were in the kitchen.
