It was Election Day in Chinquapin and her husband was, pardon the express, kicking ass. Clairee was certain that, save for an act of God, Lloyd Belcher was going to be Mayor by day's end.

They had a party ("gathering," Lloyd insisted it be called, lest they jinx his almost certain victory) planned for later in the evening, just a few friends ( Read more... )

"Huh. So that's what it looks like." He'd never actually seen someone just appear from out of nowhere like that, there was a lot less fanfare than it seemed like there should be. As it stood, it was just a mildly off-putting little event to witness while trying to grab some sun on the beach. Probably more so for her, though.

"Oh, honey, you are going to wish you'd brough some actual drinks with you," he said, sitting up.

Clairee, startled by the voice, nearly drops her tray. Tightening her grip on it, she turns to face the man speaking to her.

"I was in the kitchen, getting drinks for the party when all of a sudden, I find myself here," she said quickly. "Can you tell me where exactly here is?"

"Well, I can tell you where here isn't," Sasan offered tentatively. He didn't really know how to deal with a situation like this, but southern Reese Witherspoon certainly warranted at least trying to be helpful. "It's not wherever you just were. Or anywhere halfway civilized, really."

Clairee nodded, unsure of where to go from here. "Will I get back where I came from?"

"Are you having a party?"

Wendy thought it was an awfully strange time of day to have a party. It was also probably a strange place to have a party as well, right there in the middle of the beach with nothing much else to show that it was a party. However she wasn't much good at throwing parties for herself therefore who was she to pick at people for their choices. The woman did look awfully dressed up though, especially compared to Wendy who wasn't dressed up much at all. Not really, though she did like her blue primrose dress.

Look about her, Wendy was certain that any party was certainly not happening here. "Aren't you a bit early? Or is it very late?"

"It was a lovely party," Clairee replied. "A celebration, finest in Chinquapin. Lloyd, that's my husband, was elected Mayor today."

"Was he?" Wendy was certain that there were no mayors here at least not any with any sort of power. Still she smiled, quite excited on behalf the woman and her husband.

"Oh congratulations to him, to you both. Though, might I ask you one thing, if you don't mind. Where's Chinquapin?"

Clairee smiles. She couldn't be prouder of her husband. "Chinquapin? Why, it's in Louisiana."

"Cecily?" says Jim, spotting her not far from the front door of the hut they still share. "Cecily, what are you doing with that?" When he gets closer, though, it's pretty easy for him to tell that it's not Cecily at all, even if they look similar. "Sorry, Ma'am," he says immediately. "I thought you were somebody else."

Though he's still curious about the tray of glasses, he has to admit.

"Goodness, no but don't you go worryin' about it," Clairee replied. The glasses were beginning to sweat as the ice was just starting to melt. She sighed, feeling slightly ridiculous still holding the tray. "I'm Clairee Belcher. Not usually this overwhelmed, but they're waiting on drinks."

Composing herself, she smiled. "You are?"

"Jim," he introduces himself. "Jim Stark." He'd offer to shake her hand, but there's that tray in the way. "Who'd you say was waiting on those drinks?" He looks around the beach, but there doesn't seem to be any kind of gathering. "Do you have far to go?"

"I'm not sure," she confesses. "I was in the kitchen getting these drinks for Lloyd and everyone and when I looked up, here I was."
