Coming up behind McKay, John decided to keep his mouth shut. He'd had enough of McKay snapping at him for asking stupid questions for an entire lifetime.
Instead, he just held out the food he'd brought back for McKay, giving him Carter's as well. She seemed to be gone from the gate more often than not, probably unable to deal with McKay. He couldn't really blame her.
McKay took the food, not really in the mood to talk. He was an abject failure. Yes, not just a failure, but an abject one. He was two parts misery, one part crankiness. "Nothing," he muttered, eyes flickering over the calculations, feeling more depressed than ever.
John reconsidered his decision to stay quiet when he noticed the look on McKay's face. It freaked him out a bit, mostly because he was so used to McKay knowing what he was doing and fixing it, not looking like the laws of physics had turned on him and murdered his cat.
