Compared to some previous days, it's pretty quiet out in the sattelite clinic. Actually, more like dead quiet. No patients, no emergencies, no little feet - yet - running around and getting into things. It's not Rollie's favourite task to straighten things up and do inventory, but he figures he might as well get it done while nothing else is taking ( Read more... )

There's not a doctor on the island that Eden likes as well as Rollie so, when her cat bites her hard enough that she's got blood running down her wrist, there's only one place she'll go.

"Tell me you're in before I bleed to death or the bloody cat tracks me down and finishes off the job," she says, sticking her head around the door.

"If you were bleeding to death, you'd be less aggravating," says Rollie, happily dropping a blanket on the floor to meet her at the door. "Let me take a look."

"You bloody love how aggravating I am, and you know it," says Eden, holding her hand out to him.

"All doctors run their mouths as much as you/"

"No, you just got lucky with me," he says. "Did you say a cat did this?"

She's never been able to heal herself, but that doesn't stop Florence from glaring at the deep cut on her palm as she stalks angrily toward the clinic near her home. At this time of the day she expects to find Rollie there and when she does, she thrusts her hand toward him, looking extremely pissed off and more than a little petulant, which she'll refuse to believe if Rollie points it out.

All the hunting and skinning of animals she's done in Harsh Realm, Florence expects it shouldn't be so easy for a knife to slip, but the bleeding wound on her hand says otherwise.

"Well, that saves me the trouble of diagnosis," he says, taking her wrist so he can get a good look. "You know I'm going to need to stitch that up, right?"

From the look on her face, she does.

Florence's scowl deepens and she nods firmly, just once. Her hand is throbbing, but the pain can be overlooked and forgotten just as long as she knows she's being taken care of. A few months ago and she would have been thrusting her hand at Mike instead and the possibility of infection would have been a lot more real.

"Doctors always do make the worst patients," says Rollie. "I bet if this wasn't on your hand you'd be trying to take care of it yourself, right?"

Dean poked his head in the door before coming the rest of the way inside. He didn't care much for hospitals or clinics, and rightly so. Everytime he ended up in one somebody he cared about was dying, or he was dying, or some nosy nurse was asking how a fall down the stairs could've left three claw marks in his chest.

Better to get in and get out of the place in a hurry. "Hello?" Dean called, spying a shelf that looked like it could contain disinfectants in the same breath. He made a beeline for it.

Rollie stands up from behind the bed right about the same time Dean reaches the shelf.

"Hi, can I help you?" he says pointedly.

"Uh yeah," said Dean, giving the guy a bright smile even though he could already tell it was wasted. "I'm looking for something to clean up a cut."

"Something or someone," says Rollie, moving some things aside to grab a bottle from the back. "What kind of a cut? I should probably take a look while you're here."

Laura isn't a wimp, nor is she stupid. So, the reason why she walks into the satellite clinic instead of sucking it up and hobbling back to New Atlantis is that she knows all too well what can happen to a smarting ankle if she just lets it go.

"Hellooooooo?" she calls, fairly hopping into the doorway. "Anybody home?"

"Over here," says Rollie, standing up from the back of the room and very quickly jotting down one last thing before coming over to meet her. "What happened?"

"Hey!" Laura greeted, grinning broadly as she made her way carefully over to where the doctor was. "It's nothing major but I figure better be safe than sorry, right?"

Pointing to her tender foot, she continued, "I was running on the beach. Didn't see a conch that was half-buried in the sand and, well, made a pretty crappy landing on my ass after my ankle gave out."

"Surprisingly common injury around here," he says, patting the examination table. "Everyone likes the beach. Hop up and let me take a look."

Ainsley thought that March was approaching a lot faster than she really had given it credit for, which meant that she was going to need some exams and soon. Which meant that she could either hike it up to the Clinic and find someone, or she could go to Rollie. "Knock knock," she greeted, rapping lightly on the door as she entered.

Rollie turns around from the shelf he's currently straightening. "Hey, Ainsley," he says. "Is today really boring enough that you found your way over here?"

"This is, actually, not a social visit," she admitted to him, her voice sounding strung together by a thousand thin little violin strings, pulling her tighter than she would have ever thought possible. "I'm here to ask you to uh. Well, to be my GP. I guess after nearly three years here, I can't exactly put that off anymore and hoping I won't come down with something can only last for so long."

"You haven't had a checkup in three years?" says Rollie. "I shouldn't just be saying yes, I should be ordering you to be my patient. You been feeling all right, though?"
