a human likeness

Objectively speaking, her drafting of landscapes and buildings showed a spark of real talent. Her life drawings, on the other hand, could not be classed as anything but abysmal. For as well as she read people and was able to be helpful in parsing their problems, she still could not seem to translate the cues that gave meanings to their actions onto ( Read more... )

"Depends," Logan replied, sitting down uninvited and flashing a smirk. "Is it gonna end with you telling me I should be naked for artistic reasons? 'Cause I'm actually totally okay with that," he quipped, picking up her discarded sketch and looking it over.

"Since when are you all arts and crafts though?" he asked curiously.

"It could begin with me telling you should be naked for artistic reasons," Morgan answered, a teasing light in her eyes and her voice. "Or perhaps reasons that are less artistic, since I have yet to make you blush."

In truth, she had not seen much of him recently and his presence pleased her greatly. She shifted to permit more casual conversation and did not reach for the poor sketch, though she wished to. "However, since you have asked a question, I suppose I ought at least answer it first, no?" Answering herself, she continued, "I spend a good deal of time observing humans, so I thought to try my hand at drawing them."

"Yeah?" Logan replied, nodding thoughtfully and offering her the sketch back as he spoke. "I draw sometimes," he admitted. Though sketches of Harkness being eaten by sharks, or doodles of dinosaurs snacking on surfers wasn't exactlly fine art.

"And for the record, it takes more than nudity to make me blush," he grinned. "You should ask around more, I'm sure someone around here could give you a hint if you wanna win that bet."

"I confess I had no idea. I suppose there's a great deal I don't know about you." She eyed her sketch with an amused scorn, and with a small, wry sound that might have been a snort, coming from another, she gathered the edges and folded it before sliding it into the back of the sketchpad.

"For the record, it takes more than nudity to make me blush as well," Morgan teased, then tipped her chin to him. "Will you pose for me so I may practice? Perhaps I'll learn more of you while I draw."

"Who, me?" I ask, checking over my shoulder to see if there's someone behind me. There isn't, so I can only assume the answer's yes. I'm not wearing anything particularly exciting, just a pair of denim short shorts and a white, long-sleeved v-neck top, but it's not like I have anything better to do.

"Uh, sure."

Smile warming fractionally, Morgan gave a single nod. "Thank you. I am attempting to improve my skills before I embarrass myself in the art classes I have signed up for."

As she did not know the young woman and had seen her near the Compound only a few times and only recently, she surmised her to be new. "I am Morgan Le Fay, called simply Morgan. And you?"

Jesus, this place is just swarming with the Arthurian legends. First Guenever and now Morgan freaking Le Fay. Still, I'm getting better at hiding my surprise.

Nodding, my mouth pulls into a friendly smile and I say, "Nice to meet you, Morgan. I'm Kate, Kate Bishop."

She tipped her chin to study the girl, Kate, for a moment. She did not seem to have heard of her, although she might perhaps simply be reserving judgment on whether to remark on what she did know. It was difficult to tell. "It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Kate."

Gesturing to the space in front of her with a small, serene wave, she answered, "Please, make yourself comfortable. I am trying to learn how to capture what is characteristic about the figures--" People, she corrected herself sternly. "People I am drawing. Perhaps we could get better acquainted while I attempt the sketch?"

Trance smiled a little. "Sure, why not? I mean, Vincent wanted to paint me, once. No reason I can't have someone else draw me." Not that she was at all sure what to do. Did she just sit there and smile and wait or did she actually have to do something? She supposed that was up to the person doing the drawing.

She looked at...she wasn't entirely sure who that was. "What do you want me to do?"

Morgan answered that small smile with one of her own. "Thank you. My skills at life drawing are poor and I am trying to improve them." Considering the question of posing for a moment, she lifted one shoulder in a small shrug and extended a hand to the space in front of her. "Perhaps you could arrange yourself comfortably in a characteristic pose?"

The pose she chose would perhaps tell Morgan more about the woman, and they might become acquainted. "I am called Morgan Le Fay. And you?"

Yet another woman who didn't look twice, or even once, at her skin color and Trance was pleased. It seemed to be that more and more people were familiar with purple-skinned, or at least non, humans. "Trance Gemini." She looked around and shrugged. "I'm afraid I've never really modeled before, so I don't know what you mean by 'characteristic pose'. Do you want me to just...stand there? Do something?"

"I simply mean to suggest that you might arrange yourself comfortably in a manner that is common to you. You are not human, or were not, and I should like to see you as you see yourself. At least insofar as that is possible." She had met very few nonhumans, excepting herself, Delirium, Austin now gone, and Garak. She supposed she might include Vala in that since she had been a Goa'uld host, but in any event, the opportunity to learn of another species pleased her. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Trance Gemini."

I had only just emerged from the compound, dressed for a trip to the beach. For the first time in days I felt as if I'd had enough sleep, although, if the pattern held, by the time I found sand and laid out my towel, I'd be taking yet another nap.

As it was, I had on the simple green bikini and sarong and I carried a towel and several magazines. I hadn't expected to say more than a passing hello to Morgan, perhaps inquire as to how her days and nights were, but her question warranted more than that.

"Why would you want to draw me?" I asked, sitting next to her. "Is it because I'm beautiful? It's because you think I'm beautiful. You can admit it, Morgan." Of course I was teasing her. Part of the fun of teasing was never being quite certain if she would laugh or give me that look I'd first seen in Atlantis.

Conversations with Vala, it had to be said, were never dull. This greeting startled her eyebrow up, and then a soft, bell-like laugh from Morgan. "I suppose beginning with a beautiful subject would improve the chances of the end result being appealing," she answered, amusement still plain in her tone.

Her lips quirked, eyes brightening with pleasure in her company. "And, yes, you may take that as confirmation that you're beautiful."

"Why, thank you," I said, as if it had been unpropmted instead of practically forced upon her. "Of course I'll sit still. Why exactly are you drawing? Are you that bored? It's not beyond reason, I get bored here so easily."

Unbidden, Morgan reached over to draw Vala's hair off her shoulder and behind. "You're welcome. Thank you. And," she responded to each point in turn, mildly punctilious but only for the amusement it gave her, and she shared that with Vala in a mild smile. "I'm drawing because I spend so much time observing people, I thought I would try to make that somehow useful. As well, I...am unsure how to articulate this without it sounding...odd, but I still see humans as collections of energy, emotion and thought. It seemed a good exercise in trying to focus on their physical forms."

It wasn't that her vision had any abnormality. Simply that physical features were, in the main, unimportant to her and therefore left little impression.

"Couldn't you just take a glance in the mirror instead?" Jill asked with a bit of a grin, giving Dante a gentle pat on the nose when he cocked his head curiously at Morgan. The cat had taken to following her most places, although he disappeared into the jungle whenever she entered the Compound and returned later, always coming back to her hut.

"I'd probably be a terrible subject," she added. "But I bet Dante might sit for you."

At the sight of a familiar face and familiar voice, Morgan's smile brightened, following on a soft laugh. She glanced to the sketch she had discarded, directing Jill's gaze there as well. "You couldn't possibly be worse than Dick. The man cannot sit still for a moment."

The cat drew her attention after and Morgan held out an inquisitive hand. "This will be Dante, I expect?"

"This is Dante," Jill agreed with a nod. The large cat's ears twitched as he stepped closer, seeming to be confused by someone who looked so much like Jill.

"He used to be Lucifer's," she explained, leaving it at that for now. He used to be Lucifer's and now he belonged to her or he'd picked her, she wasn't sure which was correct.

She knew even less about interacting with animals than she did about humans, but this one seemed not unfriendly. Wanting not to startle it, she left her hand out for it to investigate while she spoke to Jill.

"He's a beautiful animal." Pursing her lips, she glanced up to study Jill. "Has Lucifer gone, then?" They had not spoken of him much but she knew that Jill had been close with the man.
