With glitter in her hair and paint streaked down her cheeks and arms, Coraline looked like she had been in a war with fairies. She hadn't, she had in fact been indulging in arts and crafts for her super secret party. So secret she hadn't even known about it until that morning. She'd been on the island three hundred and sixty three days. That was ( Read more... )

After his recent escapade with the gun, a shindig is exactly what Moritz Stiefel needs. He studies the sign curiously, trying to figure out all the words in it. He's caught on 'shindig' and 'Wellington', though most of the rest of it seems to make sense.

When he sees the paint and glitter covered girl nearby, he smiles a little. "Is this yours, Fraulein?"

"Yep, Coraline Jones that's me." Coraline said pointing to her name as she smiled at nodded at the older boy. She wiped a smear of pain from her hands onto her cheek unconsciously, her cheeks coloured in a rather bright shade of blue. "You're welcome to come, everyone's invited. The last time I had a party loads of people came and it was really good."

"What are we exploring. And what..." Moritz points to the word he had trouble with. "What is a shindig? It sounds painful." Though the exploring could be quite interesting, and the young girl seems very nice, if nothing else.

"An explorer's party," I echoed, peering at the notice. I gave Coraline a suspicious sidelong stare. "And what, pray tell, do you intend to explore?"

Mind you, a part of me said that if she said anything except Dinosaur Territory, I'd be game. Heck, I might even be game for Dinosaur Territory. The girl's enthusiasm was dangerously infectious.

"Everywhere, well mostly rock pools and the beach. Hence the wellies," Coraline said with a smile. "I'm not allowed to go to the dino territory again. Not after I went and explored there on my own."

I smiled, relieved and, strangely, slightly disappointed. "It sounds like fun. Do you need any help setting up?"

"Would you? Yes please, it took me ages to set up my birthday party. I had party bags and I lined all the trees with decorations but that took me ages and I don't have that much time. It's a bit of a spare minute thing really," Coraline said explaining to Polly properly. "I'm sorry we're not going anywhere really cool but there might be little kids too. We could go exploring if you wanted properly. I'm sure Adam wouldn't say no if there were two of us and you're practically a grown up."

If Sonya was amused by the sign on the bulletin board, she didn't show it-though she had a difficult time holding back a smirk. She did have some interest once she got past the glitter and actually read the sign.

Sonya was already exploring the island, but it was mostly the jungle area for plants or trees that could be put to use. If she were eleven years old again, there'd be no question that she'd go, as an adult..and there being kids, she wasn't so sure. On the other hand, it was open for adults..

She theorized that the girl covered in pain and glitter was the one who created the sign. "And just where on the island are you planning to explore?"

"The beach mostly, I mean I normally explore the jungle and up by the dormant- that means sleeping- volcano but if little kids come then that wouldn't be fair. So I thought rockpools, hence the wellington boots." Coraline said smartly smiling at the lady. She was sure she'd seen her when she'd been exploring but she saw a lot of people all the time.

"I know what 'dormant' means." She went between studying the poster and the girl. "I don't think the adults would be too keen on little kids going near even an inactive volcano." That was a guess on her part, she was never really sure about kids.

"Well I'm not a little kid, I'm eleven and a half. I'm very almost grown up," Coraline said seriously crossing her arms over her growing chest. She really disliked this growing business, she thought she might like it but it got in the way of everything. "And we're not going to go there for my party just the beach. Besides me and Wednesday used to go up there on our own all the time."
