Because she might've been a little dead on her feet when she hauled herself to bed last night, but she was pretty sure she would've noticed a very large bed outside the front door of the Winchester family home. She didn't know who'd brought it there, or what they ( Read more... )

Dean whistled low, his only warning before flopping down onto the unmade bed. "Nice." He bounced a little to make it creak. "What, bags full of dried up leaves not doin' it for you anymore?"

"They just don't stand up to hard use," said Jess without thinking. "Okay, what the fuck? Who leaves a bed out on the lawn?" Who, or what?

Dean slammed the door on all thoughts that might have tried arising at her first statement, smirking instead at the second. "Non denominational elves," he said, rolling to the other side of the bed to see if it was as sweet as the first. "I got a guitar."

"Yeah, but on the lawn?" said Jess, turning to give him a smile that was both baffled and pleased.

Though, looking at it, there was no way that bed was fitting in their bedroom.

John had been thumbing through a book on Hindu myths and lore when he heard Jess from somewhere in the vicinity of the doorway. "Would've guessed that maybe Dean short-sheeted the bed but I'm thinkin' that's not what's wrong," he said. Shutting the book with a snap, he headed to the open door to see what was the problem.

"...the hell?"

"Yeah, that's what I said," said Jess, hands on her hips, staring at the enormous thing. "What am I supposed to do with that?" Besides have the best night of sleep she'd had in months, even if it was out in the yard.

After squeezing his way out of the hut, John walked slowly around the bed. The mattress looked comfortable -- and what was more, there was a tag on the bedframe with Jess' name. "Well," he said diplomatically, "you're supposed to sleep on it." A beat, and he raised a brow at her. "Didn't they teach you 'bout that sort of thing at Stanford?"

"What, you think I could afford a bed, after paying for Stanford?" said Jess, flashing him a smile. "No, I slept in a bathtub, obviously." The bed was definitely amazing, huge and soft, and apparently all hers. "I know about people getting things this time of year, but... am I supposed to sleep outside?"

"Wanna take it for a test-drive, toots?"

Yeah, he knows about Jess's fiance, and, yeah, he ain't quite figured out what's going on with Web yet, but hell, he's still a guy and, far as he knows, he ain't dead inside just yet. He leans against a tree grinning and taking a bite of the apple in his hand.

"Just a suggestion."

"And by 'test drive' I'm going to assume you mean 'nap'," said Jess, arching an eyebrow at him, clearly amused. "Just look at this thing. It's enormous."

Joe tries his best to look as respectable as he possibly can. It ain't really working.

"Yeah. Yeah, that's exactly what I mean."

"I knew it was," said Jess, grinning at him. "But seriously, look at the size of this thing. I don't think I've ever had one this big."
