"Oh, what a cutie," Eden said, smiling down at the dog and the woman as she passed. Her intention was to go in out of the heat for a while, but it was hard for her to pass by an adorable dog, especially one as small and cute as this one was. While the woman wasn't familiar, that was hardly uncommon here, with people coming and going all the time. "Is he yours?"

"Apparently," Mikal replied after looking up, a little surprised, but still grinning. It was just as nice to see someone else smiling as it was to do so herself. She'd spent far too long around people who were nothing but miserable. The dog really was a cute one, too, all bouncy and cheerful. "It just ran up out of nowhere, but my name's on the tag, so I guess it's supposed to be for me. I've heard things like that have been happening, right?"

"Right," Eden said, smile turning wry. "That's how I got saddled with a cat earlier this week, but it's not all pets." She was just relieved Grigg was in one piece still, frankly, but not exactly disappointed for herself. She'd never been especially material, and a pet was a more welcome addition to the household than most things would have been anyway. "Seems like everyone gets something."

"Well, my -" Mikal wasn't quite sure what to call him, though, and she faltered, but only for a fraction of a second. "A friend of mine got a guitar," she explained instead, figuring it best to leave it at that, as something simple. "That's about all I've had time to see, though. I've only been here... a couple hours now, I guess." Reaching down to pet the dog again -- decidedly a girl, from what she could tell -- she shrugged. "Apparently it's been long enough for somebody out there to decide I needed a pet."

Zia hadn't really been gone long for the walk he'd decided to take, though he wasn't really surprised to see Mikal not hanging out in the room. He didn't even see the animal in her arms until he got closer, but when he did, he just sort of stared at it, then at her.

"Meeting people already?" he asked as he sat down next to her, eying the dog curiously. He'd never seen it around before, but with the amount of dogs on the island, he guessed it wasn't that uncommon.

Mikal's smile widened instinctively when Zia sat down beside her, though she continued scratching behind one of the dog's ears as she shifted to face him a little better. "Meeting dogs, apparently," she laughed, shaking her head. "She just ran up, and she's got my name on her tag and everything. I think it's a she, anyway." She figured it would have been easy to tell, but that didn't mean she would have been able to say for sure. "Which means I guess she's mine now."

"It's yours?" he repeated, looking back down at the dog again. He hadn't lived with a dog since he moved out of his parents' house. It seemed like the island was set to hit him with a whole lot of surprises today. "I guess we'll have to find out what other people are feeding their dogs, then."

It seemed like things wouldn't be so quiet anymore for him. He found himself not minding that so much.

"Well, that shouldn't be too hard, right?" she asked decisively, lifting one shoulder in a casual shrug. It didn't seem like it would be, anyway. The dog she'd had back home before she died had eaten just about anything she put in front of it. "We should try to figure out what kind she is, too. Look at her, she's so cute."

For days Ophelia has been locked away in her hut, playing her newly arrived harpsichord until she could feel callouses forming. It has brought a new light to her life and she plucks at strings and uses her elbows until the need for food and new light becomes dire.

"Awh, he does strike one as a dear," she declares, pulling her ailing index finger from her mouth with a smile. "Is he yours?"

"That's what it looks like," Mikal replied with a shrug as she glanced up, still a little confused, if not displeased, by the prospect. "I don't know where she came from, but she's got my name on her collar. At least, I think it's a girl." Either way, she wasn't complaining. She hadn't been expecting a dog, but then she hadn't been expecting any of this, either, and it really was a cute little thing.

"She then." Ophelia smiles enjoying the idea of little pets as presents. "A little dog from above or well, from somewhere else. Sometimes the isle is kind like that."

"So I've been hearing," Mikal said with a light laugh, ruffling the fur on the top of the dog's head affectionately. "I just wouldn't have expected anything after being here for a couple hours." Grinning, she stuck a hand out, as if remembering herself. "I'm Mikal."

"Oh, hullo there," Archie says pleasantly at the sight of the dog. And the woman, of course. He's never had a pet of his own - ship life doesn't call for it - but he's always been fond of the neighbouring dogs among the Hamlet. "He's rather fluffy."

"Isn't he?" Mikal said with a smile as she looked up, ruffling the fur over the dog's neck. "Or she. I think it might be a she." Either way, it didn't matter, with a dog this cute. "She just came running up to me out of nowhere, but it looks like she's supposed to be for me."

"She looks quite lovely," Archie comments, crouching down. He holds a hand out to the pup, letting her lick it in greeting. "I've heard many stories of gifts being given in such a way."

And a few that could never be called gifts, as well. Archie counted himself among the luckier ones in that regard.

"Yeah, I heard this happens," Mikal replied idly, looking back down at the dog and wrinkling her nose as she leaned in towards it. "I've only been here for a couple hours, but a friend of mine had something show up, too. So I guess it was long enough for me to get a gift or whatever, too." And it was certainly a good one. The dog was adorable, all bouncy and, it seemed, well-behaved.
