Of all the things in the world to wake up to find, Eden hadn't expected a cat.

Well, not a cat so much as a kitten, a ridiculously small, brown-grey creature with folded up ears and the widest eyes she'd ever seen on an animal. When she'd woke up that morning, there it had been, curled up in its own small cat bed and wearing a collar that ( Read more... )

Penny would have stopped either way when she came across Eden on the path, but she gasped at the sight of a kitten in her arms, bringing a hand to her mouth as she smiled. Perhaps it was the fact that she'd never gotten to have a pet growing up, but with the exception of that one freaky cat in the Compound, she tended to take quickly to small, furry animals. "Oh, my god, when did you get that?" she asked, her voice rising in pitch before she could help herself. "It's so precious, oh my god, what's its name?"

By this point, Eden was privately convinced of two things: first, that her newfound pet, while adorable, was likely at least partially of alien stock, because there was no other way to explain those eyes; second, that she really was going to be a crazy cat lady anyway and there was no point but to embrace it. With the kitten kneading her paws against Eden's arm, Eden shrugged. "I don't know yet," she said. "She was there when I woke up. I think it's a she."

"She's so cute," Penny breathed, her own eyes a little wider as she stared down into the kitten's, practically in awe. "She's just so darling, we have to name her." She was, of course, including herself in the decision making process without asking, but she didn't think she'd have needed to. If Eden hadn't named the cat yet herself, it was clear that someone, namely Penny, would have to step in and assist, and with a kitten that adorable, it was a task she was glad to help with. Gently, she reached a hand down to pet the top of its head, grinning up at Eden as she did. "Those little ears, oh my god."

"All folded over," Eden agreed, all but cooing as she rubbed one of those ears. "And her eyes." The cat was so small, but sweet, as cats went. She hadn't seemed to mind being picked up and held at all; in fact, she was clearly enjoying the attention. "I haven't got the first clue about a name, though." She just kept getting saddled with pets, but at least Mr. Muggles had come pre-named. That wasn't much of a blessing, actually, given that his was a fairly asinine name, but it had saved her the trouble.

Gideon, having gotten frustrated at his fucking computer for not doing what he wanted it to do, had decided to spend some time looking up locations of where he could film. After eating shit in the Compound, he set off down the path to do just that. What he hadn't expected was to see Eden carrying around something that caught his eye pretty quickly.

"...What the fuck is that thing?" he asked, pointing a finger at the tiny ball of fur in her arms. It definitely wasn't the fluffy rat of a dog she usually had with her.

Eden raised her brow at him, unimpressed. The cat was a little weird, but adorable nonetheless, and there was no call for that. "This is my cat," she said, as if it ought to have been self-evident. "I don't know, she showed up this morning. You get a computer, Grigg gets a lightsaber and I get... an alien cat." But she had a flying car, so it wasn't as if there was no justice at all in the world.

"Huh," he said, eying it still. The thing was looking up at him with its big fucking eyes, and he found it kind of disconcerting. He never was a fucking animal person, though. "Whats its name?"

Eden shrugged, glancing down at the cat, sitting all attentive in her arms and staring steadily at Gideon. "I don't know yet," she said, absentmindedly stroking the cat's back. "I can't call it Cat forever, though." She'd figure something out, but for now, she was clueless.

"You're far too young to be in any danger of that, dear," Harriet replied as she passed Eden walking the other way up the path and paused to have a better look at the kitten in her arms. It was, she had to admit, dangerously cute.

"New arrival, I assume?"

Eden laughed softly, nodding as she came to a stop, the better to let Harriet to see. "Just this morning," she said. "She was in my hut when I woke up. I don't know what to call her yet." A little more company was unlikely to go amiss, though, she had to admit. Mr Muggles, purebred though he may have been, turned out to be something of a wanderer.

"I wish I could offer you some suggestions but, I'm sorry to say that, I've never tried to name a cat before. I don't know what I was taught at school really," Harriet replied with a laugh of his own.

"Somewhat presumptuous though isn't it, giving you her?" she added as an afterthought. "Though I suppose you'd hardly leave her to starve."

"I know," she said, shaking her head. "This place just dumps things on you left and right. Though better a kitten then most things we go through." She rubbed under the cat's chin, smiling down before shaking her head again. It wasn't what she would have asked for, but there was no denying the kitten was cute. "This is the second pet I've got by accident here."
