"Dermot with your... teeth so white, won’t you guide my sleigh tonight."Technically, it was a toboggan, not a sleigh. And Dermot wasn’t really guiding it; he was chasing after it as Shawn dragged it up a hill, singing bits of random Christmas songs and altering them to his liking ( Read more... )

Stephen stood in the snow, staring as Shawn ran after a wild cat. He hadn't seen Shawn around for a while, which was never a bad thing, actually, so he had no idea what was going on. Not that Shawn ever really made sense.

The cat ran by a little closer to Stephen than he'd have liked and he jumped back. Why was this happening?

While Shawn had never been put in a situation where a baby lynx had run by him after having stolen a piece of clothing from someone else, he'd like to think he would have had the decency to at least attempt to stop the thing. Someone sneezes, you say 'bless you'. Someone tries to chase a thieving feline, you do more than jump out of the way!

Right...?

By the time he reached Stephen's side, he was out of breath, huffing and puffing and possibly having a minor heart attack. He wasn't sure if there was such a thing as a minor heart attack...

"He's... not... a bear!" Shawn said between gasps, doubling over, hands braced on his knees, watching helplessly as Dermot zigzagged in the snow with his prize.

If it had been a bear, Stephen would have done a lot more than just jump backwards. Not that he'd volunteer that particular information.

"I can see that. Why are you chasing a wild cat?" And where did it go now?

"It's what you do with thieves. You chase them down." The animal kingdom was not exempt from this rule. "And he's not wild, he's just... rambunctious."

Benny expected all manner of the random and bizarre in her day to day life. Perhaps even more so since being abducted by whatever force was in charge of this bloody island. But even she was taken aback by the sight she was confronted with on her walk back from the Compound.

"Bloody hell," she said with a look of utterly amused shock. "Are you all right? Or are you on the menu?"

"Never better," Shawn wheezed as he jogged to a stop. His lungs burned and he was pretty sure he was seeing multicolored spots before his eyes, but he ignored all of that, lifting two fingers and placing them against the pulse point at the side of his neck. Those fancy runner-types did it, and he didn't want to look bad. Of course, he wasn't actually counting anything... "Yep, still there." Which was good, he guessed. Not having a pulse would have been a drag.

She wasn't entirely sure whether he was serious or just taking the piss, but it was pretty damn amusing either way so she didn't bother trying to stifle the laugh. "I'm very glad to know you're still amongst the living. But what is that creature? I don't recall seeing anything like it before."

"Besides a dirty, rotten thief, you mean?" Shawn said, veering to the side slightly to glare around her. Dermot continued to trot proudly with the scarf. "He's a lynx. At least that's what it said in that Wild Cats of the World book the shelf gave me... It failed to mention that they had an affinity for winter accessories."

Lucy had her fill of sledding, heading back to the compound, the sled sliding quiet through the snow behind her as Shadow trotted beside her. Shadow didn't stay quite so calm when she saw the cat and the man, pressing in front of Lucy protectively, "it's alright, I think," she said to her, looking to the man in the snow, "are you alright?"

A hyperactive lynx had stolen his scarf and now there was a huge wolf eying him. On a scale of one to 'alright', Shawn was at about a three. "I've... been better," he told the wolf. Yes, it showed up with a miniature human who'd actually done the talking, but the girl was a lot less likely to make a meal out of him, so the wolf kept his attention.

"Do you need help? Shadow could chase off that creature if you do," her fingers buried deep in his fur, she didn't indicate at all that she should go and do so now. It might be a pet, the same way the Direwolves were.

"That, uh, won't be necessarily." Seriously, didn't this thing have three pigs to torment? Or a date to attempt to out wit a little girl in a red hood? "He's mine. A menace to winter wear everywhere, sure, but I'd prefer it if he wasn't chased away."
