Playing in the snow hadn't been appealing a few days ago, but as time ticked on, Logan's brush with an icy grave had faded from his thoughts and he was amusing himself in the only way he could now that surfing was off limits ( Read more... )

Seeing Logan is such a cheery mood was a pleasant change from the state that Cecily usually found him in. When she saw him heading over to his dog, she decided it would be a nice time to say hello the fellow, as she had not conversed with him in some time.

"Why, Logan, how very pleasant to see you," she started, a wide smile on her face all the while.

Glancing up, Logan smiled at her as he scratched the dog between the ears. "Hey, Cecily," he greeted, nodding once as he got to his feet.

"What's up?" he asked, dusting his knees off and then straightening.

Although Cecily had often heard the phrase being used on the island, the words still made her glance to the sky. She blushed when she caught herself, looking back to Logan with an apologetic smile and simply responded, "Oh, island things, I suppose. I do find the wintertime very comforting. I never saw much snow back home. And yourself? You are looking very well."

"I'm alright. I'm... really good," he admitted with another small smile, shrugging his shoulders a little and bending down to scoop up a bit more snow to make another ball for Linus.

"I like it when it snows here. It didn't snow much back home for me either. Not unless we went on vacation. I like the way it looks though, before anyone walks through it after it's fallen. It makes everything look... new or something."

She'd heard from Jack that he was fine, but it made Saffron feel a little better to see it with her own two eyes. She wasn't terrible close to Logan, but he was important to Jack, which made him important to her, too.

"Well, someone's having a good time," she commented with a smile as she headed over, and it may have been unclear as to whether she was talking about the boy or his dog.

It was honestly a hard call when it came to guessing who was having more fun, Logan or Linus, but the dog and the snowballs were forgotten for a moment as Logan looked up at her. He grinned in that way boys often did when finding themselves face to face with a friend's hot sister or a sexy substitute teacher, trying too hard to be cool as he got to his feet and slipped his hands into his pockets.

"We're just getting a little exercise," he shrugged, wetting his lips and nodding at the dog. "If I wear him out, I might get a full nights sleep. He's taken to waking me up at the crack of dawn lately. I dunno what the hell that's all about."

She returned his grin with a dazzling smile. "Oh, he's still young yet, of course he's got all kinds of energy," Saffron said, crouching down to scratch behind the dog's ears in a move that normally would have given Logan a nice view of her cleavage, except said cleavage was currently completely covered up by various layers and a big hooded parka.

"So I heard about your little camping trip taking a turn for the worse," she said, seemingly casually, and scooped up some snow in her hands as she talked. "I'm glad to see you've recovered from that little bit of excitement." Her tone suggested that she knew the ordeal was anything but little, and she threw the snowball for Linus to chase after, glancing at Logan as she stood with a softer smile than the one she'd previously given him.

Logan shrugged, glancing away as if it was no big deal, his hands deep in his pockets as he spoke. "It was stupid really. More fool me for thinking I could go relax without the island screwing me over, huh? I guess next time I'll have to pack for all kinds of weather. Knowing my luck, next time I head out there it'll flood or something."

He watched as Linus went chasing after the ball, sighing as it exploded against a tree, causing the golden retriever to yip and run around the trunk in circles before starting to dig. "I swear he's smarter than he looks," he assured her, looking embarrassed on the dog's behalf.

Jack was trudging through the snow with his rifle slung over his shoulder. Hunting wasn't as easy as diving...at least in the ocean, you knew where to look. Bigger things lived near the reef, shellfish and crab were on the bottom. The animals, though, had to be tracked and Jack had had no luck today. Bill might have to make do with pantry stores.

He was bundled up and had found the most fantastic gloves. They kept his hands warm, but in a flash he could have his fingers to pull the trigger. Well, could have, if he'd found any game worth shooting. He had his greatcoat buttoned over several layers and a hat, so he wasn't feeling the cold at all. He laughed at Linus as he destroyed a snowball and waved at Logan as he walked closer.

"You're being mean to him," he chuckled, although it was clear the eager dog didn't mind a bit.

"Uh... 'sup Boris? Any luck catching Moose and Squirrel today?" Logan asked in a fairly poor attempt at a Russian accent. He tilted his head a little as he looked the other man over, taking in the coat but finding himself staring at the hat again as he finally replied to what Jack had been saying.

"And I'm not teasing him, I just keep waiting for him to figure it out. Besides, look at him, he loves it. He would do this all day if I'd stand here and let him. You don't even want to know how long we've been out here. I think I'm getting frostbite through my gloves."

Gloves that were actually mittens. Not that Logan was proud of that fact. The clothes box just liked to taunt him that way. Pajamas that looked like they were made for overgrown toddlers and t-shirts with cute graphics on the,... and in the winter, mittens, along with the matching scarf and hat. Though at least this year they were navy blue.

"I didn't see any moose," Jack replied. "And you don't shoot squirrels with this caliber ammunition. Not that Bill would serve squirrel...I don't think. How long have you been out here?"

Jack shifted the rifle so he could lean over and ruffle the dog's ears, knowing that Dulcita would have hours of fun sniffing his gloves when he got back home and took them off.

"Not even flying squirrels?" Logan asked, laughing a little when Jack didn't get the reference. "Man, one day I'm going to have to sit you down and educate you," he tutted.

Leaning over, he scoped up some more snow and began to make another ball, watching Linus and Jack as he spoke. "I lose track of time out here," he admitted. "But it has to be a couple of hours now. We went for a walk, then played fetch just off the path, and then this for god knows how long. He's fine, but I'm starting to get cold. I was getting ready to try and take him home."

"You are mean to him," Marian calls as she wanders toward Logan. There is a smile in her voice, her cheeks pink from the cold in a way that she loves. "It is not his fault he is simply a dumb beast, and cannot discern that what you've thrown him is gone now."

"I have faith in the fact that he'll eventually figure this out," Logan replied, scratching Linus affectionately between the ears before standing up straight again. "Or maybe he does get it, and in his head he's screwing with me," he suggested with a smirk.

"Maybe he's thinking, 'stupid human, I can't bring back something that isn't there,' and then simply indulging me by pretending to look for it."

"You are right, that may also be," she says her smile not fading as she glances down at the dog. "It would be giving him the benefit of the doubt, would it not?"

"Maybe," Logan agreed, shrugging a little and offering her a small smile.

Benny saw the dog long before she saw the man, but once she got close enough to make out his features, she knew she recognized him. A friend of Jack Harkness, or perhaps more than just a friend. She might have even been introduced to him at one of the parties, though she definitely couldn't swear to that as most of the parties ending in something of a blur.

Coming up close enough that she knew he could hear her approach, she called out to him with a smile in her voice. "I'd say you were being terribly cruel to the poor thing if it wasn't so hilariously amusing."

"It's not cruel, look at him, he loves it. He likes a challenge, man. Right, Linus?" he asked the dog, grinning when his question was quickly answered with an excited yip, the golden retriever so wound up that it gleefully put it's paws up on Logan's shoulders. He nearly sent his master backwards in the snow, but Logan managed to gently push him off, laughing as he righted himself and got back on his feet.

"Besides, for all we know, he could be fucking with me right now. He could be sitting there thinking, 'stupid human, I can't bring back something that isn't there,' and then pretending to look for it, just to act like he's really trying. Like, maybe he thinks he's just indulging my stupidity."

"Maybe, but I suspect that might just be you trying to justify the futile chase you're sending him on." Benny laughed and hoped he understood that she was merely taking the piss. "He's absolutely adorable, though, and you're right. He seems to love it."

Reaching down, Benny picked up some of the pristine snow and let it melt in her hands. It never ceased to amaze her that no matter what planet she was on, every single snowfall felt the tiniest bit different. As unique as the snowflakes they were made up of. Fascinating.

Wiping her now wet hand on the thigh of her pants, she looked back at the man and smiled. "I'm Bernice Summerfield, by the way. Benny. I've seen you about but I don't think we've ever been formally introduced. You're a friend of Jack Harkness, yeah?"

"Friend? Yeah, I guess. Something like that," Logan replied, offering her a mitten-clad hand and a smile. "I'm Logan. Uh, Logan Echolls," he clarified, his manners still not what they could have been, even though it was obvious he was making an effort. Rare though that was.

"This is Linus," he added, nodding at the not-quite fully grown golden retriever.
