Sarah had had her doubts about the nature of their location at first. True, she couldn't think of any explanation for how they'd arrived on an island in the middle of nowhere with no apparent gap in time between the moment of departure and the moment in which she'd found herself there, but huge gaps between what she and what Chuck last remembered. Kathryn had spent the day following what was quickly becoming a daily routine: Get up early, have breakfast, then spend the day outside trying to find any clues that might help her find out where this place was and, more importantly, how to leave. Not that she had made much progress so far. In fact it was getting more frustrating with every passing day. Perhaps it was because of that, that she found it so difficult to really concentrate on her surroundings today, or perhaps the constant lack of sleep had just made her too tired by now. As it was, she was simply walking along the beach, occasionally looking out at the ocean and wondering how things might be back on the ship and whether her crew was alright ( ... )

Sarah glanced up and over at the woman, squinting just a little in the sunlight as she offered a polite smile. "You alright over there?" she asked. She doubted anyone would have missed the woman, but Sarah in particular couldn't help it, as actively aware of her surroundings as ever, however much in repose she appeared. In the absence of any direct instructions, she had made it her goal to become acquainted with as many islanders as possible without actually becoming overly close to any of them. It was too late in a couple cases, but that had been true even before she'd arrived.

"Yes. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you." Now that she thought about it, what had come over her, to bother a complete stranger like that?

The woman didn't seem to mind, however, and remembering what had brought her out to the beach in the first place, she thought she might as well ask for some direction: "I was looking for a starship. I was told there was one somewhere around here and I'd like to have a closer look at it. You wouldn't know where to find it, would you?"

"Oh, it's no disturbance at all," Sarah said, sitting up. She draped an arm over her legs, reaching up with the other to brush a strand of hair from her face. "The starship... It's called Serenity, I believe. It's up the beach in that direction if you head up that way a couple miles, right around past the little pier. It's interesting. Not what I was expecting." She had, of course, gone to check that out within a couple days of arriving, not fully believing the claims until she'd seen it for herself.

If there was one thing besides the obvious lack of a donor that was holding Elliot back from having a baby, it was the fact if she did, she was never going to look as great in a bikini again.

Stretchmarks. Baby weight. Yeah, it didn't lend itself to any pretty images. Her mom had managed to keep her body, but Elliot knew (even though she wasn't supposed to) that this was just because of surgery, and there were no plastic surgeons on this island. Not any with decent facilities available, at least.

Anyway, right now she looked great in a bright yellow bikini and matching sarong as she wandered down the beach, towel draped over her arm. There was a blonde woman in her favorite suntanning spot and, if possible, she looked even better in a bikini than Elliot did.

Bitch. I'll claw her eyes out!

"Hi," she greeted cheerfully.

Sarah looked up at the sound of a voice, smiling over at the newcomer. "Hi," she said. She'd noticed her approach, of course, but it was simpler not to pay too obvious attention to any of the passersby. Not all of them bothered to speak to her, which suited Sarah fine. She could do polite chitchat with a smile plastered on her face until the end of time and not break, but that didn't mean she wanted to.

This woman, she recognized as a doctor from the clinic and a friend of the Bartowskis, however, which made her worth getting to know. "Oh, I like your sarong," she said. "It's cute."

"Really?" Elliot grinned, surprised. "Thanks! You don't think it's too...slutty, or anything?" It had a tendency to go flying up at inappropriate moments, and Marilyn Monroe she was not. She wouldn't be going near any grates any time soon. Not that there were any on the island.

Maybe I should put curlers in my hair and start wearing bright red lipstick. Except I think that'd just make me look like a really cheap whore instead of a regular one.

Sarah sat up a little, resting on her elbows as she shook her head. "No, it's totally appropriate," she said. "I mean, if you can't show a little skin on a beach... Although that clothes box makes it difficult to cover up at all in a swimsuit, it seems." It had given her the tiniest bikinis imaginable at first, all string and bling, things she couldn't think would (or were meant to) cover much at all. It had been a battle to get something decent out of there. "I'm Sarah, Sarah Walker."

One thing that Pam could be grateful for in regards to her arrival was that she hadn't needed to attempt to get a decent bathing suit from the clothes box. She'd seen a few, in looking for regular clothes, and from what she could tell, her choices were too skimpy to be considered clothing, a century old, or just plain hideous. The clothes themselves weren't much better, of course, but at least they were more substantial than a piece of string ( ... )

Sarah eased up onto her elbows, looking over at Pam with a smile. "Not at all," she said. "Please, join me." She hadn't been doing anything she couldn't do another time, and talking to someone else didn't infringe on her ability to keep an eye and her focus on her surroundings. Besides, she'd found she genuinely liked Pam's company. In the midst of all the polite small talk she'd been forced to make just by virtue of now living on the island, it had been a pleasant change of pace to discuss something real and refreshing to have no ulterior motive in a conversation. "What's the notebook for?"

Pam's smile widened a little as she took a seat, putting the notebook down at her side, hardly paying it any attention until Sarah mentioned it. "What, this?" she asked, glancing over at it briefly in lieu of a gesture. With how little consideration she'd given to carrying it, she was almost a bit surprised to have the focus brought to it now, but not too apparently so. "It's just for some drawings. The shelf wouldn't give me anything closer to a sketchbook." At the time, it'd been mildly frustrating, but knowing that she had some proper art supplies elsewhere relieved that.

"Oh, that's so cool," Sarah said, turning her head to the side as she looked over. "I didn't know you were into art." It was nice that Pam had a hobby to keep her busy in the midst of the madness that her life here apparently was. Sarah had her work to occupy her, mercifully, or after only two weeks, she thought she might already have been going crazy herself. The job had been her life for years. She didn't know how to stop now - especially when the job was Chuck Bartowski. "I can barely draw stick figures."

Normally, Sarah Jane wasn't a woman without self-esteem, but give a girl a look at blonde, perfect, and more perfect and perhaps even they faltered. Still, it was good to see the other Sarah and she could use a break before she resumed her packing for her hop over to the other Island (call it an early birthday present and all).

"You know," she joked, "I think it took me two months before I ever learned to relax. You're ahead of the curve."

Sarah glanced over and laughed, small and quick, almost embarrassed. In truth, her mind had been racing as her body lay still. No matter how she put the pieces together, though, this island didn't add up. A brief distraction couldn't hurt. "I'm a quick learner," she said, grinning over at at Sarah Jane. "It's too beautiful out here not to give in just a little. How've you been?"

"Other than the constant disbelief men have that I'm capable of taking care of myself? Well, I've been well," she said with a nod of her head and actually meant it. She hadn't worried about this Luke in the future or Casey and she was going away. It was better than she could have hoped for. "Yourself?"

"Pretty good," Sarah said, nodding. "Settling in. Has someone been giving you trouble? Or protecting you too much from trouble?" It wasn't something that ever bothered Sarah much. She knew she was more than capable of holding her own, and that was good enough for her. If men wanted to be condescending, that was their own problem, and it was fun sometimes to prove them wrong.
