John had nothing against kid shows. They were cute, they were educational, and they kept said kids from crawling all over him like a jungle gym. The thing was, he could only take kids shows in small doses ( Read more... )

"Hey, Calliope," Austin greeted as he neared the couch, giving Kara's daughter a brief smile before glancing over to Sheppard. "John."

Flying pigs weren't a sight he was used to, but then, he could have said the same thing about ass-flaming dragons a few months back. And it certainly wasn't stranger than talking, singing lions, which he'd encountered in a reel the bookshelf had offered him back when he'd been on paperwork duty. He hadn't managed to truly get over the experience.

"Are those pigs genetically engineered to have piloting capacity?" The program would at least be scientifically educational, in that case.

John gave Austin a nod in greeting, and winced when Calliope yelled hers. He thought about working on her indoor voice, but decided a while back that it was more work than he really cared to do.

"It's a cartoon," he told Austin with a snort. "Anything can happen."

"The cartoon's universe should still contain enough internal logic to sustain itself," Austin countered sternly. Well, as sternly as a situation involving pigs flying planes allowed. He kept his gaze firmly attached to the screen, allocating the proper amount of suspicion to the pigs' dubious exploits as he settled on the couch next to Sheppard and Calliope. "Otherwise it's not a very good cartoon."

John was finding it easier and easier to separate Austin from Sumner - not that he'd ever mistake him for the Colonel, but the more he talked to the guy, the easier it was to go a little while forgetting what his face looked like.

"It's a cartoon for little kids," John said, relaxing a little when Calliope seemed content to sit on the couch at the moment and kick her legs instead of trying to jump up and down in an attempt to mimic the flying pigs. "I don't think she really cares about logic."
