It was a dubious anniversary, not to mention one she was never actually supposed to have. Wanda had been up with the sun, doing her damnedest not to think about anything in particular as she headed for the Compound to grab something to eat. As evidenced by the fact that she had already walked a fair bit past the Compound, though, she was only ( Read more... )

Things have been different, since she walked Brendan home from the party...since he said what he said and since she found Sol's head, floating in the ocean. It isn't that Eden's gone cold, nothing like that. It's more that she remembers what she used to be. Like a tool recalling it's function, something like that.

She doesn't talk as much as she used to.

She gets to the waterfall just in time to watch a familiar figure dive, and waits, watching, folding her arms across her chest.

Wanda stayed under long enough for breathing to become her new primary concern before surfacing with a significant gasp. It was another long moment of pushing her hair out of her face and making sure she wasn't completely bogged down as she treaded water before she noticed Eden standing there and grinned in recognition.

"Morning, Major!" she called with a small wave as she floated vaguely in that direction.

"Wanda."

Watching Wanda swim, Eden's trying to remember the last time she took her boots off. It's been days. She knows that much.

She pushes her hair back from her face, barely notices the greasy texture of it.

"Nice day for it."

"When is it not?" Wanda shrugged, making her way over to the edge and pulling herself up onto the rocks, t-shirt clinging to her frame awkwardly. Any small distraction was a welcome one today.

"So how's happenings?"

Ever since the night of Atia's party, Brendan had been avoiding people. It was a combination of reasons, really: embarrassment, shame, guilt. His memories of the night were splotchy and confusing; more a recollection of feelings and scattered thoughts than actual events, but it had been enough to send Brendan into hiding for a little while. As it was he still had several letters of apology to compose, and one pictogram to Ronon who he suspected had suffered the brunt of Brendan's involuntary intoxication.

Well, him and Austin. Brendan groaned inwardly. God, AustinGiving his head a bit of a shake, Brendan absently kicked a stone with his foot, sending it skittering along the ground in front of him. He realized he had reached the waterfall and he glanced up at the sound of someone jumping in. He saw her hair before anything else, and Brendan felt his face heat. What he did recall of his night with Wanda hadn't been anything nearly as horrific as say, Stephen Colbert, but he still hadn't been himself - and that stung. After all ( ... )

"Perfect," Wanda said automatically, even before she had finished turning to see Brendan standing there, relief evident on her face. She'd asked around to make sure he had been alright, but she hadn't actually seen him since the party. It would be fair to assume he'd needed some time, but it was good to see him out and about.

"It lives," she said with a smile, pulling her hair back from her face and swimming over to the rocks.

Brendan gave a small, embarrassed smile back. "Yeah," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "Sorry for being all MIA lately, I just ... it's been ... you know." He took a breath, crouching down a bit by the edge of the water when she swam over.

"I don't remember too much of that night to be honest. I know you helped me." His expression then was soft, fond, and he dropped his gaze. "You always help me. But if I did anything or said anything to make you uncomfortable that night than I sincerely apologize. And I hope that you can forgive me."

Wanda sincerely doubted there was much Brendan could do that would manage to make her uncomfortable, but that probably wasn't what he needed to hear at the moment. She kept her tone light and casual while making it clear that it was the truth. "Hey. You have nothing to apologize for. I'm just glad you're okay," she said, leaning forward to try and meet his lowered eyes before pulling back and swatting a splash of water up at him.

Ray's flip-flops slapped against the ground as he walked, swim trunks and t-shirt on and towel over one arm. He'd been doing most of his swimming at the beach, and decided to go over to the pool at the waterfall for a change of pace. It was kind of nice, now that he was able to pull off his t-shirt and not display a burgeoning beer gut. It wasn't that he was all that self-conscious, but he wasn't about to complain about life on the island giving him his early twenties trim body back.

It looked like the waterfall was a good choice that day, and Ray's smile automatically broadened when he saw Wanda already in the water. "Hey there!" he greeted, raising one hand in a wave.

If ever there was a day for friendly faces, this was it, and Wanda grinned widely as she heard Ray's voice, pausing mid-kick to spin herself around to face him. Her t-shirt got a little twisted in the process and she straightened it with one hand as she returned his wave with the other.

"Hey, somebody came prepared!" she called with a few enthusiastic nods.

"You bet!" Ray replied cheerfully, depositing his towel on a nearby rock. "Mind if I join you?"

"Heck no!" Wanda said in a tone that implied the answer should have been obvious. "You can save me from getting all lost in my own thoughts," she added playfully, treading water.

The last few days had been entirely devoid of exploding lizards, gunshot wounds, feathered helmets or anything else that could serve to break routine. It made Austin admit he had a routine, and he wasn't sure he enjoyed the revelation. It made him feel uneasy, numb at parts. He hadn't been created for a normal existence. Especially not a normal human existence ( ... )

Wanda wasn't paying attention to much of anything and enjoying the hell out of it when she glanced over to see someone standing off to the side. "Last time I checked," she answered wryly, even before noticing who it was. "Oh, hey! Austin, right?" she said, grinning as she let herself bob in his general direction. He'd always seemed a little weird to her, but most interesting people did at one point or another.

Austin kept his gaze fixed on Wanda, letting her swim closer before crouching down, elbow resting on his knee. "Austin," he confirmed, forming an expression that approached a smile but wasn't quite there yet. "The T-1000." A significant amount of people knew that without him sharing the information - he was more than used to that - but he still felt like he needed to say it. He was getting far too attached to the name. But having a name and a human body didn't negate what he had been. Still was.

Right, the robot guy. He didn't look like any terminator she'd ever seen, mind you, but that was beside the point. "Right," she nodded, still smiling. Wanda knew all too well what it was like to compare what she'd once been to what she was now, as well as the dangers of dwelling on it too much. "I was a robot once, how'd that work out for you?" she asked casually. She hadn't cared for it too much herself, but she hadn't been stuck in Box her whole life, either.
