I got a feelin' that something ain't right

The jukebox had been an asshole for the better part of the day, and Freddy had given up on lounging with a stack of comics like he'd been planning for. At first it hadn't really been that bad, just seventies pop hits in an hour long block before it started repeating the same shit time after time. One minute he's absently humming along to Sandy ( Read more... )

The blood washes away, but it's still there. It's all still there, and, the worst thing is that she isn't sure that she cares. You do what you have to do. She buried Sol's head in a gave, deep enough that nobody's ever going to find it. The last few days, she's been there, though, crouched down in the sandy soil, staring at the spot.

Good men. She lost good men, and maybe she stands to lose a few more.

"Don't suppose you've got another one of those," she says, as she comes level with the guy on th path, the smell of smoking.

It's almost a reflex.

It wasn't exactly an unfathomable question, and Freddy tipped his head back against the tree as he sucked in a drag. They were crap, island rolled and not even rolled all that well, but it was more than the people who didn't know about the, albeit limited tobacco supply, had. Even with what there was access to there were still days where he mentally pleaded with the island to have a carton of Red Apples show up, even if they wouldn't last long.

"I might." He said, raising a brow and then shrugging. "I'll warn you, they're shit."

"I didn't ask for an assessment of their quality," she says, and there's a flicker of something that might have been a smile in her eyes.

It's difficult to tell when her face doesn't change.

"A cigarettes a cigarette, right?"

Freddy came to the conclusion that she was clearly not a ray of sunshine coming to shine brightly on what was left of his day. But, regardless of her lack of cheer, he shrugged and took a drag on his own smoke and shoved a hand down into his back pocket, retrieving a fresh and less than expertly rolled item.

"Need a light, too?" He mumbled around his own, offering it to the chick.

"Holy shit, you have a cigarette," Ray blurted when he spotted Freddy. "Here I thought quitting'd be no big deal, but I'd just about kill for one right now," he lamented.

"Dude, I used to smoke almost two packs a day, now I'm down to about two cigarettes a day. Total." Before showing up on the island quitting had crossed his mind once or twice, but there was nothing like showing up and being forced to go almost completely cold turkey. "My lungs might say thank you, but my nicotine addiction says fuck off."

He could see the request for one a mile away, and he knew he owed the Ghostbuster one, but he didn't make an outward effort to offer just yet. "How've you been doin'?"

"Pretty good!" Ray answered jovially, trying not to gaze longingly at the cigarette dangling between Freddy's fingers. "Teaching at the school and researching island phenomena have been keeping me pretty busy. And you can't beat this weather. How about you?"

"I think island phenomena could warrant life long research." Freddy remarked dryly, flicking away some ashes with a twitch of his knuckles. "And that's just with the shit we know about. Because seriously, there might be things happenin' we don't even see." Long night spent feeling trapped in your own skin and overheated by the island heat and the body lying next to you could lead to some weird thoughts you might not otherwise have.

She had just finished some coffee and had debated heading back to the hut or heading to the beach. So far neither destination has won, but she was pleasantly distracted as she noticed Freddy.

"And you had many choices of which kind to play, huh?" Anita smiled before she realized that he looked slightly shaken up. She kissed his cheek softly then stood down hill of the smoke.

"Y'know, that's something I've been wondering." He grinned at her, but as relaxed as he was getting there was still a semblance of honest to God truth in there. "Then again," he shrugged, "Sometimes I think the problem was that I wasn't playing enough of part. Who knows. It's all over with, anyhow."

"What're you up to, today?" He blew smoke away from her, knowing by now that there were things she appreciated more than getting nicotine blown into her face.

"See that's why I don't think I could do anything like that." Anita was pretty horrible at lying directly, which was why she avoided it most of the time. Oh she could tell the truth keeping just enough out to avoid any problems, but actually keeping up a cover would definitely be out of her league.

"Mostly relaxing." It was a little easier said than done, but she was managing. After all even with all of the craziness it was still a tropical Island, so it had some things in its favor.

"If we're playing cops and robbers, can I be a cop?" Karen asked, having caught that last bit. She invited herself over and sat down next to Freddy, upwind from the smoke. "Hi."

"Would you pat me down when you caught me?" He countered automatically, his interest visibly piqued. "Because it wouldn't be realistic otherwise. If we were gonna play, we'd have to make it so there was some realism in there."

"Hey." He took a drag and regarded the cigarette mindlessly, exhaling away from her as a courtesy. "How're things?"

"Only if you don't mind a little police brutality," Karen replied, and gave Freddy a grin. "I'm good. Mostly bored, but that's pretty much normal."

"Bored is like a... default state. Or something." He sucked on the end of his cigarette thoughtfully and blew the resulting cloud of smoke away at a slow pace. "I think I've actually spent the last few months willing the island to randomly add an arcade onto the compound or something. I've had a weird Pac-Man craving lately."
