Chloe was currently nosing at the fluffy slipper the clothes box had given Stephen like the thing was a puppy. She put a big paw over it to hold it in place as she started to gnaw on it.

That was less puppy-like.

Stephen sighed. She had taken to carrying that thing around and it was starting to look gross. He sat on the Compound steps, bored out of his mind and staring into space. Resolutely trying not to think of all the usual island weirdness.

Until inspiration struck.

It was clear to anyone with eyes that Chloe was not the most well-trained of dogs. Stephen didn’t care enough to train animals, though his own dog at home, Gipper, was at his beck and call. (If by that, you meant the way Stephen had to cart the dog around and occasionally bow to him - Gipper was old.)

But now seemed the time to attempt to teach his the dog some decorum. Or at least some tricks that would entertain himself.

He reached and grabbed the slipper, held it between two fingers.

“Hey. Hey, you.” She looked more interested in the slobbery slipper than in Stephen. He sighed, said through clenched teeth, “Chloe.” He rewarded her with a smile when she looked at him.

“This is a slipper. Slip-er.” She tilted her head. “When I ask for my slippers, you bring me something like this.”

There. That ought to do it. Next on the list, ties.

He wondered if he could teach her to do other important tasks, like tying his ties. And attacking anyone who disagreed with him.
