"Why are there three different words for 'one'?" Logan asked, looking completely unimpressed as he glanced down at the small study guide Donald had written out for him. "Unus, una, unum? What the f ( Read more... )

"Because the number is used in reference to the-" He stopped and shook his head, ignoring whomever it was that had come into the kitchen. "Alright, a break. At this rate you'll be able to count to ten by next week."

"Oh good, I'll be right back where I was fifteen years ago," Logan replied dryly, stabbing a strawberry with his fork. He wasn't angry with Donald though, that much was obvious. No, Logan was upset with himself and his apparent inability to process anything even vaguely educational.

It hadn't been his intention to make Logan feel such, grabbing his hand and pulling him closer, "it's alright. Languages aren't always easy. I'm sure I'm not exactly the best teacher either."

It was little gestures like that one that knocked Logan off balance. Strange and random acts of kindness and sincerity that he wasn't always sure how to react to. There was a moment where his gaurd flew up, his body tense as he nearly pulled away. It passed quickly though, and he nodded slightly as he brushed his thumb over the back of Donald's hand.

"You're a good teacher," he said simply.

Cole could almost feel the sexual tension hanging heavily in the air when he walked into the kitchen. As his eyes flicked over the two men at the table, he allowed himself a brief vision of the well-groomed one holding a strawberry to the lips of the young man. This place was even better than Hollywood in many ways. He wondered if the fruit was still as sweet when not quite as forbidden.

...that thought had a nice ring to it. He hummed a bit to himself as he leaned against the counter and pulled the notepad out of his pocket, jotting something down.

"Don't mind me, gentlemen," he added pleasantly as he went about an attempt to make himself some tea.

They hadn't minded him actually, at least not until he spoke. Donald paused with his lips an inch from Logan's turning to look at the newcomer at the counter. "Ah, sorry. Were we disturbing you?"

"Free kitchen," Logan said simply, before Donald could start apologizing for whatever it was they were doing wrong.

He eyed the man curiously, looking him over and trying to take a stab at who and what he was. Writer, obviously, the notebook gave that much away. Who was a little harder though. Not that Logan really cared.

Quirking a brow, he gave the other man a look before he smirked and grabbed Donald by the collar of his shirt, dragging him back in and kissing him firmly on the lips. He let go a moment later, picking up his fork and returning to his fruit as if nothing had just happened.

"No, not disturbing me at all," Cole said cheerfully after watching the scene that the younger man seemed intent on displaying. "That's actually just what I had in mind when I said don't mind me. I'm hardly one to stand in the way of young love. You might say it's my stock in trade."

Far better than Hollywood, indeed. It was almost enough to make him glad that Linda weren't here (she'd be dreadfully scandalized), if he didn't miss her so terribly.

"Hey," Joe said to Logan when he entered the kitchen, glancing at the other man briefly. It was obvious Logan knew him, which made Joe think he could probably only be one person, but he wasn't gonna start pushing when they were no need to. If Logan wanted to introduce them, he would.

Joe might even be nice.

"Caught your dog trying to bone mine today," he added, swiping some fruit off Logan's plate before he went to get himself a coffee. "What're you doing?"

Donald paused, his foot brushing Logan's under the table. True, they were in the kitchen, but if this was a friend of Logan's perhaps he'd not want Donald to say anything. He looked down at his notes, giving Logan the briefest of smiles first.

"Linus is a romantic, I'm sure he bought her flowers first," Logan replied, glancing at Donald even though he was talking to Joe.

"Uh, Joe, this is Donald," he added, gesturing at the other man and then clearing his throat. "Donald, this is Joe, I mentioned him before."

He'd mentioned Joe more than once, scraps of information that gave a vague outline of what his relationship with the rocker really was. He'd made it clear that Joe was family. That Joe was like a father to him. Maybe better than a father.

It was probably a testament to just how much Joe loved Logan that all he did was offer his hand to Donald over the table. "Hey," he said simply, a greeting that could mean almost anything coming from Joe, but at the moment simply meant 'hey'. "Logan's mentioned you, too, don't worry," he added with a twist of his lips that was almost a smile.
