The Truth by John Humphrey NoyesCharles had already been staring at this blatantly written lie for the better part of fifteen minutes. He was sitting forward in a chair of the recreation room, two books open to the title page lying face open on the table before him. Not for nothing, Dr. Cox had been avoiding his roommate. Hell, the fact that he had a roommate made him mad enough that he had to vacate the premises to make sure no one died. He could never quite understand why the good doctor vacated the room so quickly when he entered, but he supposed a shy room mate was better than the young man with whom he'd previously shared close quarters. At the very least, this one chose not to climb into his bed at night. Not that he would be angry, but some space was appreciated. Any man could agree, he was sure.

"As I'm sure you are aware, I am a highly prized author back in the real world, and I've had the quite terrible misfortune of finding that there has been a horrible misprint. My novel, my dear, my bread and butter, the work of my life, has been printed with the wrong name. It's tragic!"

He held up a copy for added dramatic effect. "But luckily, I am more than capable of amending this inaccuracy myself."
