The clinic wasn't a very boring place, but it wasn't exactly a mecca of entertainment and hobbies either. Conversation was pleasing if you could catch a doctor's attention long enough to get out several words. There was also the pleasant enjoyment of a good book, but Wesley's gaze strained easily and he grew weary when recuperating from pain. That ( Read more... )

Rogue had heard about the explosion on the beach, because it was a pretty small island, and through hearing about it had heard that Wesley Wyndam-Pryce had taken the brunt of it. She'd gotten up early, done some scavenging, because as Brodie would have pointed out, there was no mall, cooked the only thing she really knew how, and crept into the clinic. She leaned in enough so she could see him around the the doorway, and smiled.

"Heya, English."

Wesley managed a tired smile as he tilted his head in the direction of the doorway and though he felt rather exhausted and pained, he was still able to convey his happiness at seeing friends visiting. "I see you heard about my predicament," he remarked. "That, or you're here to get yourself checked out."

"Sugar," Rogue said, squinting at him a little and smiling slyly, "if I wanted t'get myself checked out, I'd be down on the beach catching some sun." In a bikini.

"I'm here to cheer you up," she added, and stepped into the clinic, bringing her armful of assorted Get Well Soon goodies into view. This included what looked like a coloring book, some crayons, a pie, and a few books.

Wesley frowned slightly, giving the contents in her hands a curious look. "Please tell me I still look like I'm in my mid-thirties and haven't regressed to childhood," he pleaded, upon sight of the crayons and the colouring book.

A couple of days after bringing him in, I went by the clinic to check on Wesley, the British occultist who'd been caught in the blast of an exploding cupboard. The guy had been pretty out of it when I helped drag him to the Compound, so I wasn't even entirely sure if he'd remember me.

He was just closing his eyes when I walked in, so I figured it was safe. I cleared my throat. "Uh. Hey, buddy. Feeling better?"

"I can now report that I am bleeding from far less orifices than any man should," Wesley remarked, resting his palms upon the book he had been reading about eastern culture and spells cast to banish unwanted spirits. "And I feel better, though not one-hundred percent. Thank you, for the help. It was honestly appreciated."

"No problem," I assured him. "That's kind of what I do. Not that I'm glad about your injuries or anything, but it was actually kind of nice to feel useful for the first time in a couple of weeks. I'm sort of used to being in constant mortal peril, you know?" I paused. "Actually, I kind of get the feeling you do know. I've been curious. Did you know that cupboard was going to explode?"

"Not one-hundred percent," Wesley admitted uneasily. "For all my time working with Angel, it was just a cupboard. Quite a normal, simple cupboard. Until, of course, I began to store important scrolls in there and a demon decided they were best destroyed."

His smile turned rueful and slightly pained. "I, unfortunately, paid the price."

Gunn was of the firm opinion that he'd seen Wesley at death's door a little too often for his tastes. The damn guy just needed to stay away from anything that wasn't supernatural, was his thinking. It was all the human shit that kept getting him nearly killed with the guns and the explosives.

"Y'gotta stop doin' this to me, man," said Gunn from his chair near Wesley's bedside.

Wesley was of a far more serious nature than he usually carried himself with and as he looked at Gunn, an apology constantly seemed to be upon the tip of his tongue. "Gunn," he exhaled tiredly, staring at him and not daring to take his eyes away. "If I could put a cease and desist on such activities, it would be the very first thing I did."

"Yeah, well, you should get on that," said Gunn, and his tone was left ambiguous enough that even he wasn't sure whether or not he was joking.

Wesley sighed and shot Gunn a very tired look. "What do you want me to do? I didn't go searching out danger, it simply happened upon me. Charles, please," he begged quietly. "Give me some credit, will you?"
