She wasn't actually juggling her daggers. It was more testing the weight of them, the feel of them. It'd been a while since she'd actually bothered to use them, but last month, the island had almost pushed it. The temple, the occasional tiger - that's what got Shady on the beach now, first flipping her daggers into the air one at a time before ( Read more... )

All that poetic praise of the combat dance she was performing was lost on Guy, who was suffering the dubiously lucky outcome of her trance. Ever the Englishman, he didn't even raise his voice as he looked down to the dagger. "Lucky I'm holding my breath," he commented, even though he wasn't.

Shady laughed, and finally pulled back the dagger. "For you, maybe." She winked, tilting her head up to look at Guy. It was refreshing to have someone closer to her height, although it was a pity she couldn't really take advantage of it in any fun ways.

In that way they were just no fun to each other. Guy grinned. "What were you doing?"

"Remembering. It's been a while since I've actually let myself just go through it all again, instead of just letting myself slip by." She shrugged. "Fighting, pretty much. The way some people shadowbox."

Bill's only response was a raised eyebrow and a half smirk. "Reckon so," he replied casually.

Shady burst out laughing, and flicked the dagger back, slipping it into the coiled mass of hair. "Although, I think that you being fat would be a horrible travesty for all, Bill Weasley." Her eyes sparkled like they hadn't in months - she was sober, today.

She had no idea what tomorrow would bring, but today... maybe it was a lucky day.

Bill laughed as well, the sound low and amused. "I guess I'll just have to make sure I don't get fat, for the general good," he joked, happy to see the spark in her eyes.

"You could wear less, too. For the general good."

She smiled, her mouth quirking.

"Or just for me."

Bush sidestepped the blade automatically. You could call it cowardice or jumpiness all you wanted, the sailor, who had spent plenty of time too close to sharp blades, would have called it a perfectly reasonable instinct that had kept him alive thus far.

He raised his brows, smirking slightly. "Lucky you don't have better aim."

"I have excellent aim," she said, smiling. "I knew you were there." She flipped the dagger back and sheathed it, straightening, her own eyebrows rising. "I wouldn't have stabbed you."

"Well, that's a releif," Bush deadpanned. "What d'you call that, then?" he asked in reference to her strange dance of death that had brought him into such close proximity with her blade in the first place.

"I was just remembering. Running through fights. Training." She shrugged, then smiled. "Re-asserting the muscle memory, or what have you." She smiled wider, and quirked her eyebrows. "We could assert other 'muscle memory'." The innuendo was obvious - she didn't think he'd ever take her up on it, but it didn't hurt to try.

Gregor was not the type to watch a person for the sake of watching them. It was not particularly something he was accustomed to, as more often than nought he was, simply put, in too much of a hurry. And as old habits die hard, especially ones ingrained so deeply, he had only paused to glance and the seemingly dancing woman as he walked without intent nor purpose. But, he did slow, his curiosity piqued, and the realisation he had nowhere to be stilling his feet to a stop.

Perhaps he should have continued moving.

"It appears so," said Gregor, eyebrows raised slightly but a lack of alarm on his features. It could be worse. He hadn't been hit after all. "Thank goodness for thinness, I suppose."

Shadow laughed, and flipped the dagger up before catching it and slipping it into the mass of braided hair. "And for all the fruit here, probably." Her eyes twinkled as she looked up at the man standing in front of her, sticking out a hand. "You can call me Shady. You are?"

"Shady," he acknowledged politely as he accepted her hand and shook it. Firm grip, not too hard, hold on just long enough to be polite. There had been actual lessons on how to make an impression through a handshake in business college. "My name is Gregor. It's a pleasure to have been almost stabbed by you." He smiled, a wry flash of teeth peeking between his lips.

"What is it you are doing? It seems quite interesting, if not dangerous."

Shady laughed, her eyes bright. "Remembering old fights. Trying to see if I still had it - although if I forgot in two years what I'd learned in 300, I'd be more then a little worried."

She tilted her head up to look at him. "It's nice to meet you, Gregor. Do you fight?"
