Ray had been on the island twenty days, and he was even more fascinated with it than the day he'd arrived, if that was possible. He'd been spending the vast majority of his time so far combing the terrain, first with full equipment and later just with the PKE and the Ecto goggles. His readings were all over the place; one day he'd get nothing on ( Read more... )

There's an amusing sort of irony to discovering not only the song playing on the jukebox, but apparently who it's playing for; Bela's not the pop culture fiend that Dean is, but she's not had her head in the sand for the past thirty years, either.

"You won't find any ashtrays around," she calls from her seat across the room, hair pulled into a peppy ponytail. The style is so very American and innocuous, like her affected accent. "I don't think you're supposed to smoke in here."

"Oh, really?" Ray said, genuinely unaware. "Thanks."

He didn't have many left, and didn't want to waste this one after only one drag. "Hi, I'm Ray," he said to the woman with a slightly distracted wave and smile as he looked around for something to stub it out on, finally settling on giving the end a pinch with his thumb and forefinger.

"Hi, Ray," Bela responds in kind, just buoyant enough to seem as if she might care to meet him, to know him. "I'm Caroline." The name slips from her tongue nearly as easily as her own, now, almost as easily as 'Alex' did for so long.

"Sorry for ruining your smoke," she offers, and seems legitimately contrite. "I'd just hate for you to get in trouble."

"Oh, that's ok, I can just smoke it later," he said, his smile turning more genuine as he pocketed the cigarette and waved away the lingering smoke with his other hand. "Nice to meet you, Caroline. Have you been here long?"

Han would have preferred that the juke box stayed on that song, but as always, once he stepped into the rec room, the music changed to the song he'd come to loath more then island. Chewbacca growled at the juke box as Han just sighed.

Wanting to make this trip short, he headed to the bookshelf to see what he could pull off today and came to stand next to the man, giving him a small nod in greeting. "Sorry about the music, I swear when I'm here, it's the only thing the damn machine knows." Chewie sat at his feet and looked up at the man with a happy grin, though the smoke caused him to sneeze, sending his cords flying.

Ray turned to the guy, ready with a comment about how it would probably do the same thing to him with the Ghostbusters song, and his eyes just about bugged out of his head. "Wow!" he exclaimed, the cigarette dangling half-forgotten from the corner of his mouth. "Han Solo!"

Han sighed as he turned to him. Normally he would have made a smart comment...but the cigarette just hanging there mesmerized him for a minute. Then he just gave the man a tight smile. "Yeah, that's me."

Ray plucked the cigarette from his mouth and stuck out his free hand, shaking Han's enthusiastically. "Wow, it's great to meet you!" he gushed, grinning widely. He knew there were fictional characters on the island, iconic figures - but this was Han Solo! "I'm Ray, Ray Stantz."

The cushions on one of the sofas move, one tumbles onto the floor, and a skinny, freckled arm waves frustratedly over the edge of it. "What--'s somebody smoking in here?"

Ray turned at the sound of the voice, and he immediately plucked the cigarette out of his mouth. "Oh, gosh - sorry, is the smoke bothering you?" he said, genuinely concerned. "I'll put it out." He searched around for something to stub it out on, not wanting to waste what precious few of them he had, and ended up pinching it out with a thumb and forefinger.

"Sorry." The cushions move again and Dairine's mussed red head pokes over the arm of the couch, blinking blearily. "Thanks. Sorta hiding here, 'sokay." She blinks again. Is that Dan Aykroyd in a Ghostbusters shirt? Seriously? And the jukebox, too?

Okay, that can NOT be a coincidence.

"Hiding?" Ray repeated, then gave a glance around as if expecting to find someone (or something) lurking in a corner. "From whom, if I may ask?"

Maladicta was instinctively annoyed as she headed into the rec room on pure instinct. The jukebox was blaring something like music with rocks in, only sort of... catching, with a nagging, cyclical tune, not like the stuff she'd come to like. There was a man with a shirt that seemed to promote the extermination of dopey looking spirits, which really, she could get behind. There was nothing more obnoxious then a haunting in one's manor or castle. Igors had the skulking and ever-present thing down, anyway. Ghosts were not only overkill, but typically very depressing sorts who did nothing but suck the joy out an event. And they were tenacious in their gloom.

"It's filtered," she observed of the cigarette, looking impressed. "You must be new."

"That it is," Ray agreed, gesturing with the cigarette. "Yeah, I am, just been here about twenty days." He stuck out a hand, friendly smile on his face. "I'm Ray Stantz."

Maladicta smiled, struck by the man's permeating sense of affability, and took his hand to shake, firmly, once.

"Maladicta von Borogravia," she returned, fangs flashing a little behind her lips when she spoke, partly due to a half grin that was forming. "Welcome."

"Thanks, Maladicta; it's nice to meet you," Ray replied cheerily. "Say, you wouldn't happen to know where I could find an ashtray around here, wouldja?" He glanced around again, sticking his smoke in the corner of his mouth.

Ray could hear it all the way from the office, the song bringing back a lot of memories, most of them pretty good. Couldn't hurt to head out on a break and investigate, and he even grinned and tapped his fingers against the counter when he poured his coffee. When he finally poked his head into the rec room, though, he didn't expect to actually see a ghostbuster there in the room.

And you know, he'd seen the name Ray Stantz on some of the recent documentation somewhere, but he'd never been enough of a fan to make that connection till right this second.

"That thing never shuts up," he said finally, angling his head at the jukebox, "so it's a good thing you don't seem too bothered by it."

Ray plucked the cigarette from his mouth as he turned, giving the guy a friendly smile. "Well, given what I've seen of the island's particular brand of humor, I think I ought to just get used to it," he said laughingly.

As much as Ray sometimes wanted to put a fist right in that brand of humor, it was a relief to find someone who wasn't completely put out by it. Figures it would take a ghostbuster to take this place in stride.

"I take it you've already wrangled with the clothing box, then," he said.

"Boy, did I," Ray enthused, sticking the smoke back in the corner of his mouth before plucking at his shirt. "All it'll give me is stuff like this."

He stuck out a hand. "Ray Stantz; good to meet you," he said, before he took another drag, then glanced around the room again. "You know where I might find an ashtray around here?"
